Being that I feel some serious pain in my wrists and shoulders if I don't have a desk set up just right, I have done some serious research into desks. This site http://www.biomorph-desks.com has the desk I would buy if I could afford one right now. They have the ability to adjust vertically high enough so you can stand at it for awhile if you want. These are some seriously pimp desks.

Since I can't afford one of those desks yet, I have another solution. There is a chain called Storables. They have a modular desk/shelf system where you buy all the pieces separately. I had planned on taking up an entire wall in my office. However, since we are planning on moving now I am going to hold off for a bit. But feel lucky if you just have to have room for a mouse pad next to your keyboard. I have a 12"x12" digitizer pad that if it isn't at the same height as my keyboard I feel it.

Warrenton, I do CAD work for a living so if you want those drafted up real quick, I can do them. I could even do 3D models if given enough time.

i can design a mean desk, but then it'd involve metal, so my father can't make it for me :(

wood is just so impractical sometimes. :p

You are a godsend. I am not doing too well with my t-square. Been too long. But I will have it done tonight or tommorrow. I will then the big sheet up and scan it. You can put it back together and draw them up.

Well the plan has a 18 inch deep 6ft wide adjustable hieght keyboard/mouse/whatever section. Then it has a good fair amount of desk space to use, a hutch, and room for two 21 inch monitors, one centered the other to the right side (because the second display is NOT designed to be used for stuff, its more for palettes and things of that sort, so off to the side is actually better than the big gap between the two being in the center.) There is a 2ft wide and 2.5ft deep cabinet for the CPU with the entire back side open. Integrated cable guides via holes.

Integrated CD storage.
Printer cupboard with drawer and paper storage beside it. Room for a normal personal scanner on top of the hutch. A metal hole in the top of the hutch for a arm lamp to fit in.

Monitor hieght will not be adjustable, as doing so is just not feasable with 21" monitors.

The keyboard section is adjustable using sliding rods. Not little metal pins that don't look it. But rather metal rods that slide, like a lock.

The CPU cabinet will have a louvred(sp?) front panel to afford decent airflow even when closed.

The CPU cabinet is toward the wall, so all one has to do is slide down to the right end to access the CD's etc. Its not as convienient as having it face directly at you, but it is still easily accessable. I have tried to have it face more toward the user, but it makes the design too large and hinders good airflow.

Good suggestions. I like the one I have now. It's nice and big. The one thing I insisted on when I was looking was a keyboard tray that was large enough for a keyboard and a mouse. I had to look lots of places, but finally found one I liked at, of all places, Shopko. Only cost me $279. The only thing I don't like about it is that it's a little short.
