Hi there!

I have a very annoying problem right now...

My rig is composed of an Asus P5W DH mobo with 4 Corsair XMS2 sticks (2x1GB and 2x2GBl), nvidia 8800GTX and a Q6600 processor run at 2.7GHZ.

Lately I've been getting BSOD's related to memory mananged..

Today, when running a memory extensive program, I recieved a memory error..

So I ran memtest86 and got a lot of errors, and so I decided to remove a RAM stick and run it again.

BUT now the computer does not start at all. The LED standby light on the Asus motherboard is blinking green but it does not react to power up attempts.

I have pulled out all wires and replaced them, replaced the RAM stick as they were, cleared CMOS..

What do you think is my computer totally fried for some strange reason?

Extremely grateful for any comments what so ever!!

cheers,

Martin

PROBABLY a PSU problem:

It appears that it's related to the +5v system. It COULD be the PSU, or it could have something to do with the USB ports. <shrug>

Hopefully, this gives you something to start troubleshooting.

First thing I'd try is a different PSU.

I see, well I dont have another PSU laying around, I guess I'll have to get ahold of one first..

Just seem strange to me that the PSU goes bad exactly when the RAM sticks starts failing.. or do you think it could be the PSU giving false results of the RAMs?

thanks

It's always possible. Sounds to me like the problem is well-known over at the ASUS forums...always worth a read.

(if that's not the exact board, find the correct one)

Thanks for all the quick help guys!

However, I decided that I cannot be arsed to troubleshoot this problem as
the computer is around 4 years old anyway, Instead I'll get a new rig..

thanks again!

Probably the best solution in the long run. Besides . . . you are helping the economy recover that way. :)
