Computer Can't load Quake III-is it the PS?

I'm almost certain it is. Sometimes when I load quake III (maybe 10-20% of the time), it either kicks me back to windows when its loading the game or when its loading the game media for a stage. This didnt happen until I went to my 7200 rpm maxtor so it looks pretty obvious. My PS is an Antec PP-253X (something like that) and its only 250W and im running a tbird system. Just seems strange since it only seems to do that in quake and nothing else (I also play UT, why not kick me out of that?)

if it doesn't kick you out of UT it probably isn't your PS...

i doubt UT and Quake3 comsume more power than one another...

update video drivers... re-install Quake!

possibly.. the problem lies within Quake 3... reinstall, or Update your version of Quake 3...

I get kicked back to windows often when loading Quake III and I'm running a K62 500 and a 300w PS, so I don't think it's your PS. I think it's something in Quake that does it, sometimes I get half way through loading servers and get kicked. Mostly it's when entering a game though.

i noticed that when i used to get overheating problems. CPU was clocked high along with my video card. Bumped it down and everything was fine. but then u might not have an oc'd system

Hmm. Well my Voodoo3 is overclocked (but nothing can make up for its inferiority to my system). My system isnt. I tried but it just wasnt stable past 1100 (KT7...) so it just wasnt worth it nemore. Thanks for the help anyways. I will try reinstalling and then updating to 1.29f beta since I'm at 1.27h right now.

If you think your PS the problem I?d download and install motherboard monitor or something similar. Run some system intensive apps such as quake/UT and see if your voltages change at all. If your volts drop then yeah it?s prolly your PS, if then don?t then I would say your PS is prolly doing ok.
