computer can't boot up

1) In the past, sometimes the computer freezes in the "dimmer than normal" windows startup screen
2) Recently, getting "primary harddisk failure" error

retry one or two times, the computer success to boot up
what is the problem?
how to fix it?

Can you boot to Bios?

If yes, is the primary harddisk recognized?

If yes, use the manufacturer's diagnostic software to see if the disk is alright.

This software will not erase your data.

Yeah, I agree with power, run the diagnostics program on your hard drive, sounds like it might be on it's last legs.
