Greetings all!

I am new to this forum, 1st post.
I am looking at building a new computer here soon and this is what I am considering:

AMD Athlon II X4 630 2.8Ghz
Gigabyte Mobo MA785GM-US2H
GSkill Memory 4G (2x2G) DDR2 800 PC6400 1.8v
Power Color Graphics AX4850 512MB 256Bit
Seasonic PwrSupply SS-550HT 550W
Win7 64bit OS

I guess my main concern would be with the memory and the graphics card working properly with this motherboard/cpu. Any input, thoughts or suggested will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I see nothing wrong with your selection of parts. Everything looks compatible to me. Looks like a nice budget gaming rig.

Seems pretty nice.

You have a solid power supply. I don't know what your main goal is for your build. 4850 is fine I guess depending on the price your paying for it.

Gaming build or?

Thanks for the replies!

Currently not a gamer at this point due to my old computer is a dinosaur, 10yrs old, but am considering buying some games in the near future. Mainly flight simulator or racing type games.

Flight Sim X is a very, very poorly threaded game. Any card you get wouldn't really improve it, but it's nothing beyond playable. If you want to be future-proof, I would move money around or see if you can somehow fit a cheap DX11 card into that budget. ATI has the 5770, 5750, 5670 you should look at. Otherwise, the whole thing looks fine.

Thanks for the input/advice guys, I appreciate it!

What is the difference/compatability issues between DX 10/10.1 and DX 11? If I find a game that requires DX 10/10.1 will it not work with a DX 11 vid card? I would tend to think it would be backwards compatible. Forgive me if my Q's may seem kind of dumb, but I really don't keep up with what's happening in the computer/tech world (wife + kids = 1 busy dude).

Again, Thanks!

J.

Should you buy a DX11 graphics card. It will work with any of the older DX games just fine. For the same price I say go for it. :)

I looked at the link you provided in a previous post, the specs on the card look pretty good to me. Right now I am looking at doing the build towards the end of February.

Again, thanks for the input!
