Computer Build Prob.. Plz Help UPDATE

Having a prob... :-(

Everything is plugged in, Video Card, Cpu, Everything

I Hit the power button adn computer shuts off maybe 5 seconds later, although it stayed booted 2 times until i shut if off,
The fans spin for the proc, and the video but and the lights come on the DVD, adn CD-RW, but i dont hear a beep and there is no video signal, the cdrom and dvd rom dont open up either(the time it boot uped).... What could the problem be??.

plz help :-(

EDIT:: I borrowed a roomate's Enermax power supply that he uses, and i got hte same problem :-(
 
i am not sure what grounding out is

i made sure every power supply plug is in


power supply is a claimed to be "amd listed" its a 400 watt deer ps

Some wire/connector/etc... touching something it shouldn't be. Could also be you might have missed on one of the pins on a jumper w/ the connector. I did this once with a floppy drive and the system wouldn't power on. Stupid me kept trying to press the button to make it come on. Eventually it did....and burned all the insulation off the floppy power connector all the way back to the PSU 🙁 Fortunately it didn't hurt anything else.

 
Go back to square 1. Unhook everything from the computer. Just hook up the motherboard, 1 stick of RAM and video card. Make sure the CPU cooling fan is plugged in somewhere. Take out all PCI cards and unhook all drives (both power and data cables) and try it. If it boots up then start adding components one at a time and trying again. Always remember to power down and pull the AC plug before re-connecting anything.

If it doesn't start then the problems is something is shorting out to the motherboard and you may have a bad standoff (little metal thing that supports the motherboard) that is shorting the board to the case, or a bad/shorted power switch on the front panel. Try that and repost.
 
Check the motherboard manual and see where the jumper for resetting the BIOS is. See if it is in the correct (non-shorted) position. A shorted BIOS will keep the computer from firing up.

Minor correction about my previous post....it could be the power connector pin missed as well as a jumper pin. That was the case in my floppy. It wasn't keyed to only allow to fit and I missed one of the pins (probably the ground pin) on the floppy power connector. Good luck!
 
If the system is powering off, a stuck power button could be causing that.

Another biggie is if you got the heatsink on backwards, or if the heatsink is too close to the cambox end of the CPU socket. Refer to Figures 7, 13, and 14 of this guide and note how the heatsink's stepped end has to go at the solid end of the CPU socket. If your heatsink can slide back and forth on its clip, like the Thermalrights for example, then make sure the issue shown in Fig 14 is not happening to you (slide heatsink to the other end of the clip as far as possible).
 
Can you try this: disconnect the case's power button and reset button from the motherboard, and use a metal object to make momentary contact between the Power Button pins on your mobo (the top-right pair on the FP2 set). If the board runs and stays running, then maybe your case's power button is faulty.
 
well have you taken the board out like you were told in the previous post? Take the board and plug it in with your ram, video card, then your PSU connector. Short the power on switch with a screw driver. If still no boot try borrowing parts from your other rigs, and try different RAM, video card, etc.

It could be a badd PSU, I had the same symtoms in a ecs k7s5a+ xp1700 build, cheap Eagle Max PSU wasn't strong enough to boot (whos heard of Eagle max anyway🙂?).

Actually I have the same problem on my Epox 8kHa+ with an XP 1800+, everything will turn on, but there is no signal to the monitor and the keyboard/mouse dont work (hitting numlock should make the light go on but it doesnt). I have tried EVERYTHING that I could possibly think of including switching the powersupplies, resetting the bios, changing the RAM, graphics card, the whole deal. I know the components from that machine work fine becasue I tried them out in my Epox8rDa+ and they work. However when I took the CPU out and put it back in (after making sure that it booted in the other mobo) the Epox booted normally :frown: Then after being stable throughout the Windows XP Pro installation, the whole thing just craps out on me :frown: So now ill prolly buy a cheap mobo and see if that fixes it.
