That Antec you bought also only has a 4-pin (2x2) cpu power connector. It could just be the the CPU and/or board is not settling for less than the recommended 8-pin (2x4).

yea it has both connectors. a 4 pin and an 8 pin. the 8 pin is split in half (two four-pin connectors) but i think that is normal.
He did mention giving up and going to a pc repair shop. I'm quite curious about what the issue is.
If I were to guess after all the feedback: is either cpu not seated properly or dead motherboard.

True. I am curious as well. Heck, for all we know that Logisys PSU could have nuked everything upon first attempted boot.
There's just so many things first time builders can do, from shorting the board on a misaligned stand-off, to getting contaminants on the CPU bottom, to zapping something with static electricity.
Inquiring minds want to know.
