Could be. The Newegg page only mentioned the 4-pin, but it could be outdated. Looking for an update from the OP to confirm.

yea it has both connectors. a 4 pin and an 8 pin. the 8 pin is split in half (two four-pin connectors) but i think that is normal.

Try unlugging all cables and connectors, except for:

-24-pin mainboard power
-8-pin CPU power
-Power switch (or short the pwr pins with screwdriver)
-One stick of RAM
-CPU + cooler
-Keyboard/Mouse

Try starting it. If you still can't get any sign of life, it might be time to take it in to have someone else look at it like you mentioned earlier.

Good that it has the 8-pin. Have you tried it both ways (just the 4 and the 8) to see if there is a diff?

He did mention giving up and going to a pc repair shop. I'm quite curious about what the issue is.
If I were to guess after all the feedback: is either cpu not seated properly or dead motherboard.
... Hope he comes back with an answer.

True. I am curious as well. Heck, for all we know that Logisys PSU could have nuked everything upon first attempted boot.

There's just so many things first time builders can do, from shorting the board on a misaligned stand-off, to getting contaminants on the CPU bottom, to zapping something with static electricity.

Inquiring minds want to know.

for those of you wondering. the computer repair place i took it to couldnt get it working either. said it was a dead motherboard. luckily they didn't charge me anything. i'm going to return all the parts and keep my eye out for one that is already put together. thanks for all the help everyone
