Computer booting troubles .. help appreciated.

I'm having an odd problem. Sometimes when I go to trun on my computer three things happen:

(1) The computer turns on, I get this weird series of beeps, then I can hear the computer booting up but the display remains black (and the monitor remains in standby).
(2) The computer turns on, the display comes on but it's all garbled text.
(3) The computer turns on fine. (RARE)

I can solve problems 1 and 2 by simply pressing the reset switch. I press reset and the system boots as normal. Does anyone have any idea as to what the problem is? I've heard that it may be a power supply problem. Here are my specs:

AMD 1.33
ABIT KT7A (with latest bios)
256 SDRAM CAS2
Geforce2 GTS 32MB
NIC
MX300
30.0GB Quantum Fireball 7200RPM
2x2x4 HP CD-RW
Edit: Channel Well Tech. 300 Watt power supply

Seems to be video... No screen displayed (video) and then garbled text... (video)... do u have 2 sticks or ram with that 256? if so try one at a time...

Spare Vide ocard you could borrow or try?

Unfortunately, I only have stick of RAM 🙁 .. I don't think it is my video card simply because I had to send back my old ASUS v7700 for a replacement and the new one does it too.

Edit: added the fact that I have a Channel Well 300 Watt power supply

Read your mobo manual and find out what those beep codes are for. It is beeping for a reason.. probably video card/agp slot.

I would power down, remove power cord, open case, ground yourself to chassis and reseat all cards.

Simply remove cards and reseat, making sure all card are fully inserted.

While the case is open, you might as well reseat all memory modules also.

Hope this helps!
