Computer boot/Windows installation issues

After updating my new L730 preinstalled XP home edition with service packs from internet it didn't shutdown properly and "crashed".
I turned it off.
After turning it on, windows won't start. Using safe mode and restore points turning it to previous time (before updating windows) it didn't help either - the computer crashes at closing and starting windows. I thought reinstalling windows would help, but it didn't. The install process stops in the middle of installation and won't go on.
Now I don't have my preinstalled windows and also cannot install new windows.
Should upgrading my bios solve my problems(i think my version of bios is 1.20)? If yes, how do I upgrade it?

I ran a lot of tests (memtest, prime) but got no errors; I changed the hard disc but it's still the same

finally my conclusion is, that there is a problem with the sounddriver! as long as this is uninstalled I have no problems, but after installing its just a question of time until the next crash

Does it make sense to anyone that the sound drivers could be causing bad sectors on the hard drive?
I have tried installing Windows XP, 2k and using the included recovery CD on my laptop, but they fail while installing Windows, or the ghosted Windows install from the recovery partition fails to install somehow.
I haven't yet had a chance to boot up with an XP CD and run Chkdsk, but I am planning to do that later today, and then use the recovery CD again, and uninstall the sound card drivers.


So, given that there seem to be 3 people with the exact same problem on the exact same computer, does it make more sense that the sound card driver might be causing the problem, more than it being an actual hardware issue? It seems to be a little unlikely that 3 computers would have hardware fail in the exact same way, and mine showed these problems on the day I got it.

This is could probably a hdd problem or could be a mobo controller or bios. So start with the easy fix first by tackling the hdd solution. First, download a hdd utility from the maker of your hdd and then "zero" the hdd. This will require booting from a floppy drive or a thumb drive. After zero'ing the hdd try installing XP again. If the problem persists, then you will have to try another known working hdd. If the problem still exists with a different hdd then update the bios. If problem still exist, the problem is most likely from the mobo chipset or mobo controller itself.
