Computer boot question

Hello,

I have my computer connected to a battery, but the battery is bad and sometimes when it boots emits a very loud noise and the battery light begins to flash (this isn't everytime) , when windows boots, the battery program says is time to replace the battery. But I noticed that when sometimes when I turn on the computer, it doesn't completely power on, instead the HDD led flashes slowly, and the other day a friend brought his computer to my house and when I turned it on, the characters on the screen began to blink, but windows booted ok. My question is that if all this symptoms have anything to do with the battery going bad or it could be another problem.

Any help appreciated.

Well, the part about "sometimes when I turn on the computer, it doesn't completely power on, instead the HDD led flashes slowly" kinda concerns me...this may indicate a bigger problem.

However, I have two large CRTs and a bunch of hardware in my case (with a 650W PSU), and my newer backup will also beep at boot (since the day I bought it), just the same as my dying backup would always do.

My suggestion is to boot before powering the CRT. Then power up the monitor. Less power draw all at once may eliminate the beeps, and always allow boots...if that works, it probably means you're just drawing too much power at once for the backup to handle.

Hello,

My UPS is only 200W, I have a 500W power supply on my computer, I guess my UPS is too underpowered for the computer. In addition to the computer components that are in my sig, I have one NIC internal card, a 5 port USB internal card and two 80mm fans, also I have the fan of the PSW that is connected to the motherboard. I powered on the monitor after the computer boots and I haven't had any problems since, I guess at least I should get a 500W UPS or better.

Thanks for the reply.

How does the system do when you take out the UPS and run it strait from the wall?

If as is good then the UPS is the problem. If the problems presist then we need to start troubleshooting things a little more.

Well, I have run the computer from a multi-outlet since last sunday and it had been booting perfectly, so I guess the UPS is the problem. In the area I live there are a lot of ups and downs on voltage and the battery was switching to battery too much and that's what damaged it, but is better than to have to replace the whole computer I guess.

Thanks all for the replies.
