Please don't slag the noob
I had recently been having some overheating problems with my computer. My AMD 1600 xp was running between 80 and 90c. It always ran hot, around 70c. Anyway, after fiddling with it for a couple of days, I decided to jsut buy a new heat sink and fan (I bought the Masscool I read about in the cooling forum). Got it today, installation went fine. While I had my computer open, I also installed my new DVD burner. Now, when I boot up, it gets as far as the windows desktop (at best), and immediately restarts. It'll jsut keep cycling until I shut it down manually. I tried safe mode, and that doesn't work, either. The system temp says it's running at 26c now, so it can't be overheating. I unhooked the new drive, so it can't be that screwing things up. I dunno.
Anyone? Did I fry my cpu by running so hot for so long? Did I fry something else? I've never had this problem before. Hell, I've never had ANY problems before. My system has been completely stable.
System specs (I built it myself about 2 1/2 years ago, using advice I got here, no less
...
Athlon 1600+ xp
Western Digital 80gig HD
Epox 8k3a+ mobo (333 FSB)
2X256 sticks of Kignston ValueRAM pc 2100
Lite on 32X cd burner
ATI 128meg Radeon 8500le
Sparkle 300W power supply
Any help would be appreciated, as I can't work without this system.
