Computer boot is weird

So when I turn my computer it takes almost a minute for it to get to the screen in order for me to type my password.

Then once I am logged in I am having no icons for almost 45 seconds.

Also no matter how many times I reboot I can't get that turn off the computer to update to go away.

I don't think my hard drives are too full.

So any suggestions of what I can do to fix this?

I also ran CCleaner to try and clean my system up and I'm still having the problem.

Type msconfig and let us know how many programs are in the startup tab. Post a pic if you like.

A minute to the logon screen from a cold boot is not unreasonable from a computer with a traditional hard drive, especially if you are running on wifi and/or have a lot of mapped drives.

45 seconds from the password to a working desktop is a bit on the long side, but this depends on what programs are loading with Windows.

This. I would download HDTune free edition at http://www.hdtune.com/ and check the SMART status ("Health") and also do a surface scan (Last tab). You may have a HDD going bad on you.

That's what it sounds like to me.

I see a 500GB and a 120GB HDD. If the second one is an SSD, then why aren't you using it as your C-colon drive? And if the 120GB isn't an SSD, but rather, a HDD, then a drive that small must be very old by now, and may be failing.

Someone gave me some download links to get a burn copy of the OS and the product key so I'm going to try and erase everything on the SSD and the HDD

then reload the OS to the SSD and see if that fixes anything...

If the SMART data is accurate, that HDD is JUNK. 18,000+ bad sectors? Don't even bother using it. Try copying any essential files off of it, then wipe it, and either RMA it, or trash it (depending on how old it is, check the warranty period at the MFG's web site).

And that HDD surface scan couldn't have scanned the entire drive in 0:40. Try doing it again, and uncheck "quick scan". It should take around a half hour, or slower if it encounters bad sectors.

I tend to go with physical methods, hammer, unscrew lid of HDD, fill it up with salt/water/ketchup

6 months or so for the SSD.

HDD is almost 2.

If you truly want to bypass all startup routines you can do the following which is hardly ever taught at any A+ or MCSE training facility and that is....

At boot time the second you see the BIOS splash screen go away then hold down the left shift key and do not let go until you get to the desktop.

I don,t remember the defect hdd.but use your ssd for os.and the good hdd for storage

So this is fabulous time to wipe the SSD clean and buy windows 8.

The HDD needs to die.
