1/8" to RCA converter into sound card
RCA male to male from converter to TV audio in
Set to TV to proper input.

Even though there's no video involved, shouldn't this effectively route all audio from my computer to the TV's speakers? It's not working.

That's about as dumb as hooking your DVD player to your tv speakers. Oh well, carry on.

I don't have speakers here and just want some kind of sound for when I'm gaming with other people around me (just brought my headphones to school).

It works with the same cables on this other guy's laptop straight to his own TV.

I'm using the same jack as I plug my headphones into and there shouldn't be anything I need to change on my computer so it must be that the TV doesn't like my input signal.

Ahh, you may have to change to "Video 1" or another input to get the audio.

Edit>> n/m, guess I didn't read the OP correctly...

So without changing anything you can plug a laptop into the converter and it works.... but not when your computer is plugged in?

And headphones work out of that same output?

I have no idea.

The laptop works with the same converters and cables but with a different TV.
The same converters and cables hooked up to OUR TV from my computer do not work. Guess I should try the laptop with our TV.

maybe you need to turn up the volume on your PC some.... it may be working, but you may not be hearing it

Maxed the volume on both.

Tried a laptop with the same cables and OUR TV, doesn't work. So it's the TV. Those ports work fine with the Xbox but not with JUST audio from a computer or laptop.

Ok, maybe this would work for some reason....

Attach the xbox as normal and get it working as normal.

Keep the video signal attached and switch the audio cables by taking the xbox audio cables out and putting the computer adapter in. Does the audio for the computer work now?

Does it work when you take the xbox video connection out too?

maybe your TV automatically mutes the sound when there is no video signal, in the same way that ANY decent TV or VCR does when there is no signal or you are tuned to a station that doesn't come in. oddly enough.

I think YYYHDJ and thomsbrain have it right. I bet it's muting the sound since there's no video signal. So I could try hooking up the Xbox, turning it on, and then running audio from my computer, but I'm not going to do that every time I want to play something through those speakers, so I won't bother.

YYYHDJ, you were right I would miss my Klipsch severely. I do. :( But I made the right choice in not bringing them, I have absolutely no space for a sub, center, or rear speakers. I do love the MDR-V6s, though.

Could have had Klipsch but you're running to tv speakers.... so sad :(

Do you have a VCR by any chance? Maybe running through that would give you better results with the TV not muting it.

Nope.

If I had the money I'd buy another set of Klipsch just for here and simply keep it in storage over the summer. Then signficantly alter my room to fit it in here. Big room, just not arranged right for that.
