And just recently I have been hacing some really strange problems.
Last night I had one or two programs going and I was going to check something out on the internet, so I clicked in IE and after a few seconds I recieved "the NEW AND IMPROVED blue screen of death". (To which I must say that I have not yet seen this screen with Windows XP and was concerned). It said something to the effect that a fatal error had occured and it had stopped everything in order to protect windows. This didnt last long as the computer instantly shut down and started to restart. After that I was set into safe mode, with no real clues as to what might have occured. I restarted and let things run their course. After that I noticed that things just werent running right. Everything is seeming slow and sluggish, and programs are taking a LONG time to load and do thier work. I have a small program that tests the bandwidth writing to the harddrives becuase I was noticing that certain programs would be super slow at doing something, and then with noise from the HD they would shoot though the same amount of work that just too minutes to compute. The bandwidth logs from this small program were showing what I was seeing with the programs running, only with the amount of information that the harddrives were working on. Now I dont know if this means that the HD's are the cause or if something else is at work here, but I am scared cause this computer is only 2 weeks or so old and should be super fast.
I have a few ideas:
Spyware - been the cause of major problems with many computers, but to me this one seems unlinely.
Virus - I have Norton and everything is completely up to speed, but you never know with a Virus.
Temperature - This computer is fairly fast and im am sure that it generates lots of heat. I have several extra fans inside to try and curb this, but maybe thats what it is. This last few days have been the first time that I have left the computer on for any duration. I am going to try shutting it off for a night and see if that has any effect. If there is a noticable difference when the machine starts up cold.
Dual SATA Drives - I have never used SATA drives, let alone in a RAID configuration. Perhaps there is something wrong in this area.
Other than that, I dont really know where to start...
Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?
