As for "quality drives," EVERYBODY was adamant that you not confuse the iomega 12x4x32 with the 12x10x32. Why? Because the latter was a plextor and the former was a sanyo, and many, many people said that the Sanyo burner was garbage. Why shouldn't i be concerned?

Well, this is unsettling, but after looking at some reviews, maybe the Sanyo isn't so bad. Pricewatch showed its cheapest prices for it to be around $180-190 (and as always, those cheap prices are hard to get unless you phone in to the shady merchant or something.) However, in one review, I read this:

"The CRD-BP1300 also supports other features, like overburn, 80min CD's, CD-Text, and DAO + SAO and DAO SAO + SUB with CloneCD."

But also this,

"Sanyo should also consider adding DAO RAW with this one & the BP3 !!"

From
myurl

Basically, it said it was as good as a Plextor, but...how important is DAO RAW? Is it what the Yamaha 8x4x32 was lacking? Will it work with disc juggler?

Exactly, the lack of DAO-RAW is why the Sanyo is inferior to the Plextor. SAO-RAW means only partial CloneCD functions. DAO-RAW was finally added with the 16/10/40 Sanyo drive.

Well my order finally says "processing". Anybody currently getting Compusa to refund the rebate since it's now 2/5?? Has anybody got a Plextor in the last day or so? Or should I expect to get a Sanyo drive? This bites!! 5 weeks to get this drive and may not be a Plextor. Anybody that got a Sanyo how does it perform? Are you happy? Does clone cd work with it?

My drive came today (ordered 2, but got just one) The job order number is 43270. That's a job order number I don't think I have seen mentioned in previous posts. The drive has one LED, so I assume it's a Plextor. It looks identical to the picture on Roundsparrow.

I thought that with firmware revision 1.27, the Sanyo CDRW drives
were now FULLY CloneCD compliant. That was not true until about
a month or two ago, or with any earlier version of the firmware.
But I have been told 1.27 is fully compliant.

Sanyo makes very good drives. In fact, a lot of the basical
mechanics of the Plextor drive are purchased from Sanyo.

Yes, this Sanyo 12x10x32 is pretty much very good, BUT it lacks DAO RAW. It's quiet, has great seek times (apparently better than the plextor) though the plextor outmatches it slightly in most tests that cdrinfo.com performed. They've reviewed the drive there.

But...i just want to know how DAO RAW will affect what I record...for example, echelon releases

Sorry if this has been asked before, but how do you determine whether it is a Plextor? By the number of lights on the drive?

BTW, my order shipped today:

Dear Rob Diehl,

The following CompUSA order (#WB512xx) was shipped on 2/5/2001.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Order Number: WB512xx Date: 12/31/2000 12:21:16 PM
Total: $146.29

just checked compusa's web site. Says shipped on 1/30 and delivered 2/2 to somewhere I never heard of. I sure hope that is a glitch in compusa's shipping system.

They must've received a big shipment today, because mine shipped too.

kwad: that firmware update (actually 3.27) is for the CRD-BP900P drive, AKA the 12/4/32. The 12/10/32 drive is the BP1300P and there doesn't seem to be any firmware updates available for it. Not on the Sanyo website at least. So apparently their older model supports DAO RAW but the one Iomega is shipping doesn't.

Finally received my drive on Friday. Ordered 12/31/00, but the packing slip shows ordered 1/29/01, shipped on 1/31/01. Also the CompUSA CSR told me Iomega will honor the rebate even use the expired rebate form. So witch one should I use, the one expired on 12/31/00, or the one from 01/01/01 to 3/31/01??

I didn't want to read throught this entire thread, did anyone get screwed over by COMPUSA and get sent Iomega 8x4x32?
whelp that's what the they did to me. I tried calling today but was one hold for too long, had to go to work. Anyone know the extension of someone I can complain to so I don't have to wait all day on hold?

this thread is kindof long, huh? :)

Called CSR, They did receive a large shipment of drives last week, he said their all going nuts with the amount of calls on this.

Gave him my order #WB524**, said my drive will ship out this week.

Hope to get a Plextor, but prob less than zero chance of that, went and scoped out the B&M store, they had 8 drives in stock. Think when it comes, I'll just go and do an exchange with one of those if they let me. Yes, without opening the box. Try my luck, spend a buck in gas, and see what I get.

Don't worry, TIME WOUNDS ALL HEALS!

i have a theory.... i ordered on 12/31... the drive was shipped 1/29 according to the webpage and my credit card was charged on 1/29. so officially the transaction was completed 1/29 thus i'm eligible to receive the second rebate. is that right?

For those of you that sent in the rebate, which receipt did you send in? The packing list slip says specifically "THIS IS NOT AN INVOICE" while the rebate form ask for an store receipt/invoice. I have a print out from the website when I placed the order but it is dated 12/31/00 and the rebate form is for purchases made between January 1 and March 31. What do I send in?

For everyone who is worried about getting a Sanyo drive: I've had the 12X4X32 and it rocked. I have the 12X10X32 Iomega which absolutely rocks! Both drives are made in a Sanyo factory just like the NEW Iomegas. Sanyo posts updates regularly and they are very easy to update AND the firmware can be flashed REGARDLESS of Vendor (Iomega, Plextor, Creative, etc.) Mine just shipped (only getting one) and was supposed to be delivered today (Not!) so I'm a bit tweaked but for this deal, I'll be V-E-R-Y patient.
