RC,
I am guessing that u'r located in the south. Just be patient, I oredered mine on 12/31, got the shipping confirmation on the 24th and got the drive on the 25th. It came from Texas. I'm pretty sure that if they send u the confirmation u'll get it the ff. day also.
in case u'r wondering, i placed my order @12:50AM. Good Luck!!

pinoy, why should it matter what time that you placed your order? After all, there are only 27 of us waiting on these drives :)

I placed my order around 1 am and still on backorder, it's just totally BS when people who placed orders late in the morning like........7 or 8 am already got their drives.

It may be based on some sort of funky geographic distribution node system. Where those in heavily 'trafficked' areas aren't getting their drives, but those in more rural areas are. Why would this be the case? I have no freaking clue. :)

Or possibly they're doing something stupid like going down the list of orders, sorted by state abbreviation...

I called yesterday after I saw you could order them again, called that number to check my order and the nice man said "let me give you web orders this is phone orders", I get someone else that said "Oh you got in on that special", she told me another 7 days they are shipping them out as they get them (yeah right!!) but don't worry my drive will come. I even forgot to ask about the rebate!! (sh*t!!)

I got my 120.00 rebate check from Iomega yesterday. 4x30=120.00. That was damn quick. Still waiting on my TDK rebate that I sent in almost a month before.

They are backordered on the web ,but if you want call their 800 # and spend $279.99 you can have one delivered from COMPUSA in 3 days! My point is they should filled their back orders first.

Multiwave has the Plextor for $215. Shipping is usually not too bad, but there is tax for those in California.

RaginCajun, I just spoke to the rebate center. They said for the internet order you receive, send in a copy of the packing slip (it shows date shipped) along with the rebate form and whatever else is required. So they go by the date on the packing slip for your rebate.

I finally got mine yesterday. Compusa shipped it on Monday, a full three weeks after I ordered it. My advice is to be just patient. BTW, how can you tell if your CDRW is a plextor? I know this question has been asked before so please forgive me, for I am a newbie. =(

Dysen:

If your CDRW is a "true" Plextor, it will say Plextor on the box, the drive. etc. ;) However, some companies license Plextor's technology, (to be more accurate, I believe everyone is getting this particular drive from Sanyo) and do what's called "rebadging". It's the exact same physical drive, just with a different faceplate, and a different BIOS or something (?).

Anyway, this drive, the 12x10x32, is being made by a number of different companies: Plextor, Iomega, TDK, Creative Labs, maybe some others. They are all the same, outside of the above differences. If you have the Iomega 12x10x32, you essentially have a Plextor 12x10x32.

The trick is to make the drive remember that it is actually a Plextor, so it will be compatible with all the neat things Plextors do, such as CloneCD. For more information, go to RoundSparrow and read up. Be careful flashing your drive, though.

Enjoy your awesome new burner! I just hope CompUSA decides to ship mine ;) And again, a big thanks to the MODS for letting these threads stay open. This is the best source for information on our orders :)

Strange. I got my plextor 12x10x32A at Onvia 2 months ago for $229. A week later I see it listed for $199. I call them up and get the difference recredited to me with their 30 day price protection guarantee. The next week the price changed to $219. Good thing I caught that while it lasted.

Why were you charged $8 for shipping? Onvia has/had free shipping.

I think this $279.99 price is a blessing, I was unaware of it. I received my drive (a Plextor by the way) which was bad. I took it to the Compusa B&M and attempted to exchange it for a new one. All they had were the Sanyos I was so disappointed. I finally gave up and decided to make an exchange for the Sanyo becasue I figured without a receipt (didn't want to tell them I bough it online) that all I was going to be able to do was exchange. The CSR started to do the return and the first half of the process was to return the ZipCD, I noticed that it rang up for $279.99 which gave me and idea, I said "can I exchange this for another drive that costs less"?, I explained how all they had were Sanyos and showed her how the drives are different. She said that was fine and but it had to come to exactly $279.99 so I had to find $30 worth of stuff to add, (can this get any better) they I decided to push for one more thing, I asked if I could get an item that costs more, again she said no problem but I have to add the difference. I quickly grabeed the TDK VeloCD 16X, added the $20 difference and out the door I went with a big smile on my face. Your results may vary, and by the way she never even asked for a receipt.

You think they are gonna send my second drive before they start selling them?
