...Unfortunately, that'd mean they'd have to hire a new staff.

The only thing maybe worth debating would be who has the least helpful and knowledgeable employees: BB, CompUSA, OM, OD, CC, etc. OK, I know they have many good employees, but I never seem to run into any who really know a lot about computers. I've given up asking questions in stores. I just try to find product info on the net now. If you ask those guys any questions besides, "Do you have any more of these?", you are wasting your time.

The fun part is to act like one doesn't know anything about computers and hear what the salesperson recommends.

I posted a rant once that I can't find. A server fried a SCSI card and the drone send me to sound cards. When they finally located a Adaptec 2940, I was asked what I was going to use it for. I relied that I was going to use it for a DLT drive. The response, "Uhhh... BLT?"

no way! compusa has some of the most dedicated and intelligent employees I've seen. They go the extra mile to make the customer happy while finishing a sale, and always ask if I want to extend my warranty when purchasing my competatively priced item. I love compusa, and that's why I always buy my stereo systems from them!

A friend of mine bought his first computer 6 months ago. For 4 months, he wasn't able to use his CDRW because he claimed that it was not working. He wasn't aware that he was supposed to shut down all the programs running in the background etc... until I told him.

Guess what?
He has been working at compUSA for 2 weeks.
These stores don't need rocket scientists, they only need someone who can sell their products.

CompUSA is just another store. This would be like saying that every employee at Walgreens must be a pharmacist...

Interestingly enough, my CompUSA problem was the least bad thing that happened today. But it was the most recent, and it relates to most of us.

OWwwwww, that hurt. Stop biting me :p

It was a combination of dealing with incompetence at Radio Shack and not getting to flirt with some girl. CompUSA was just the breaking point of my anger.

Please stop biting into me and my hints, I think I need medical attention ;)

Being from north of the border i've never been to CompUSA although i'm wishing I was around one with their TDK rebate special and all. I'm sure that it's similar to our FutureShop (stupid salespeople - the commission ones anyways - the DVD staff are pretty nice since they don't really have to sell anything) and similar stores. Funny thing is ... I can usually find better prices from Onvia Canada if I need to buy any cdr media or electronics with their coupons and free shipping.

Being a previous employee of CompUSA...

"You get what you pay for" If ever a truer statement has been said, I've not heard it. CompUSA is no different. When you hire people at JUST OVER minimum wage, you ain't gonna get creme of the crop.

As far as I'm concerned, the ONLY reason CompUSA and other retail computer stores are still in business is because of the 'low level' people out there. You know who I'm talking about, the ones that don't know the difference between a Hard Drive and a Floppy Drive.

You shop at Radio Sh!t and CrapUSA and on the same day? Either you have a high tolerance to pain or just need some more lessons.:D

Actually, I had to return a defective cell phone to Radio Shack. While I was there, the levels of BS spewing from his mouth proved to me that he sold the phone to me, knowing that it was defective. That got me angry enough, but I also had to go to CompUSA to exchange a CD. By the time I got home, I was angry enough to kill something (this is why my parents don't trust me with pets ;))

From the salespeople I dealt with COMPUSA, I'm pretty sure as a prerequisite for employment, the applicant has to get a lobotomy before getting hired.

Uh, sure, techies at Comp USA are the Diet Coke of Bad, just one calorie, not bad enough. Hence, they get to keep their jobs :D
