Say you just something as a gift open it and it dosent work and you dont have the recept what will CompUSA do? In there return plocy it says "Opened software, games, and videos may only be exchanged for the same title. Open notebook computers, projectors, and cameras may only be exchanged for a CompUSA merchandise card." What about something becideds a notebook, projector, camera, software games or videos? Say a Hard drive or instance.

He wanted to know what CompUSA's policies are, and used a hypothetical situation, which in this case was a hard drive. Obviously he felt there was no need to reveal the exact situation if he just needed to know their return policy.

Why all the beating around the bush, smoke and mirrors, and hypothetical presentations? Why not just say you bought a router and lost the receipt and are curious how CompUSA will handle it?

Sounds like you are fishing for a sure fire way to get them to take it back.

Was just looking for info, just a simple ansur. If they wont take the thing back then all well. Eather way of asking would have worked just dident feal the need to ask what they would do about a router i want to take back, but what they do about the stuff not listed in there return plocy in general.

software and games usually can't be returned if they are opened because of piracy issues, but if it just doesn't work i would let them know that and perhaps a manager can help out

as for cameras portable DVD players and laptops

you get a giftcard back for what you paid, because too many people have been buying laptops in the past and then they return them after the weekend (renting basicly) and its hard for them to sell opened stuff like those

no restocking fees though

Obviously not. Your way didn't work well at all. Call your store and ask - not about the hypothetical gift hard drive that doesn't work, but about the router you bought that works yet you want to return it and you've misplaced the receipt.
