They could have technically offered you $170 towards a new monitor. Why they offered you $250 baffles my mind. If you were my customer with that attitude, you would be lucky to get anything.

if they offer 25o back, take it and order from Dell.

if they give you credit towards a diff LCD at the store, try looking at floor models.

Personally I'd go with NEC, Samsung, Dell before Viewsonic.

it sounds like you got pretty owned in this thread dude.

You were offered a very fair deal and you passed it up. I have no idea why you're obsessed with Viewsonic. The difference between LCD's is very very slim (assuming their in the same price range, even anandtech's lcd article a while back said so). Hell, the viewsonic you have now crapped out after a year, yet you want it again?

Samsung makes fine LCD's, just accept it.

Yeah, but he'll be lucky to get offered the same deal. I wouldn't be terribly suprised if corporate told him the same thing when he calls/writes them. If he goes back to the store now they'll probably just offer to give him his $179 back but no $250 in store credit and then he'll be in a real bind. LCDs aren't cheap to come by if he's as poor as he says he is he's in a real bind. That and he have must have one tiny ass desk that even a 17" CRT couldn't fit on it.

I'd really like the OP to update this thread with what happens after he calls corporate as I'm really curious to know.

Dear god, I made the mistake of visiting the website in his profile and scrolling down to see this guy's picture of him at the beach.

Pardon me while I go rinse my eyes out with bleach........

My Eyes~!! The Goggles do nothing.

My opinion, monitors come and go, they offered you something fair and you got into a tissy about it. Your complaint sucks.

Dude, you're lucky they gave you 250 back and not 170. Thats all I would have given you. The way warranties work is they replace the monitor if they have it, if not they replace your money that you paid for it. Its not their fault that the manufacture doesn't make that montior anymore.

While I think the store offered him a decent deal, I DON'T think they should have offered him less.

This is a bullshit excuse - who would sell a TWO year warranty knowing they'd only replace it if they carry the exact same model? What PC component is still being carried after 2 years??? Models get replaced in 3 to 6 months!

if they were going to give you your money back after a year (basically used that monitor for free) why didnt you jump at the chance to dump a broken lcd and not have to pay for anything?

OK SO i bought this 15inch view sonic LCD at compusa about a year ago i also purchased a 2 year extended warrenty because it was a floor model.

So it was an open box, on display LCD? You should feel really lucky about getting a full refund on that, as well as the cost of your extended warranty refunded. It was like a free upgrade from a POS.

Or give him store credit toward a new monitor. Offering him 170 would have been totally fair in my book, and a good deal in fact. You are getting 170 the price of a monitor 2 years ago to apply to a new monitor, basically upgrading. Monitors back then were not as good as they are now. He should be happy. The fact that they are refunding his warranty as well gives him that much more to be happy before, because he used that warranty. Thats like saying, Ok well you got in a car accident so we are going to refund you the price of this car, since we don't have any similar, and here's your insurance back as well.

I concur with a majority of the posts here. He got a very fair deal. The fact that he thinks Samsung makes crappy monitors shows how much he knows about LCD monitors. Samsung is a top tier manufacturer of monitors with excellent quality.

It's obvious the OP is a new when it comes to computers/computer hardware.

Alls i want is another 15inch LCD. But im not going to get some sh1tty samsung!

You obviously have no idea what brands are good and which aren't. True ViewSonic used to be probably the best make of monitors, but as of late, many other companies have produced monitors/LCDs which are of equal quality to ViewSonic.

So shut your ugly face up, go back to Compusa, APOLOGIZE to the manager and get your $250 asap. Buy a new LCD w/ it and again, shut your ugly face up.

I agree with the majority - the fact that they even refunded back the extended warranty is quite a compromise on their part. Anytime I've ever cashed in on an extended warranty they always looked at what I originall paid for the product and used that as a guidline. You never get more than what you originally paid for the orignal purchase. You gambled and lost.

1. I dDont buy from CompcrapUSA.

2. I rarely buy warranties.

3. I have a perfect Viewsonic VG150B that I would love to sell for $250. I cant see that small a screen anymore.

You got a better offer than most CompUSA stores would probably have given you, times change and so on. Get a 19" Viewsonic CRT A90f+ (if you have the room) for $229 (here locally) and you will be happy.

Getting $250 back was an awesome deal.

And I hate to rain on your parade, but I'm really amused how you keep talking about how you want a high quality viewsonic LCD panel, when the one you got apparently didn't last 2 years.

Take the $250, and add whatever $ you need to get some other brand of LCD. I'm not sure what would make you want to stay with viewsonic given the performance of your current monitor.

And if they would have given you CASH, that's an even better deal, you don't have to get screwed by compusa again.

You should go back, apologize sincerely to the manager, and tell him you'll accept his offer of returning your $250 cash and that you had time to think about it and realize it was a very fair thing for him to suggest.

Stop being a prick, the manager was being a nice guy and going above the call of duty to please your whining.

so tough. jeez, you want him to give you free money? take the $250, and buy another stupid floor model. remember, you didn't have a viewsonic flat panel. you had a FLOOR MODEL viewsonic flat panel.

I have nothing agaist samsung monitors but the one he was going to let me buy was being sent back to the company due to defects in the casing. It looked like crap!

Well he was trying to replace your monitor with a decent quality monitor but looking at the prices of all the LCDs CompUSA sells on their website they are all above $169 save the 15" KoGi. Granted it may have looked like crap but at least he was trying to get you a similar quality (in terms of the LCD and not its casing) model.

If its written like every other warranty I've ever seen, they aren't obligated to do any more than they offered you. In fact, most places wouldn't refund you the warranty price, just the $169 plus MAYBE a prorated amount of the warranty if it wasn't at the end.

You should have taken the $250 and been happy you had a free lcd for as long as you did.

That said, compusa still sucks.
