CompUSA radio sale - DVD drive @ $19 AR

Listening to Bill O'Reilly, waiting for Don and Mike to come on on a snowday, I heard a commercial that I didn't recognise at first. CompUSA seems to be throwing another radio sale. You heard it here first.

I only cought the tail end, the guy was emphasizing an internal DVDROM for less than a single DVD... only $19.

The sale duration was stated as "Now till saturday"
Seeing how I got my CDRW for $20 from one of their radio sales a while ago, I'll be paying a visit in a little while.

Apparently CompUSA radio ads are notoriously badly communicated to the stores. From what I remember about the last one, managers get faxes, often a while after the sale starts, indicating prices. I'll make a visit when people find the prices are correct instore. I just called my local store and they had no idea about any radio ad, and said "We don't participate in those kind of offers" after telling me that their cheapest DVD drive was $50.

I got in on the $20 CDRW off a very similar ad, with no rebates, which leads me to believe that there aren't any rebates(in addition to teh emphasis the commercial put on $19, and that they didn't mention any rebates)

I went and got it. It was $10 instant rebate and $30 MIR.
So $59.99 - $10 - $30 = ~ $20.

Called up CUSA, the hard drive is a rebadged 7200 rpm Maxtor and the camera is a 'veo 1300' and I heard the ad in DC

I heard the ad this morning as I drove just a few minutes away from CompUSA -- I took a quick trip over and bought the hard drive.

It's a re-badged Maxtor 60GB 7200rpm 2mb cache drive.
$109.99 - $50.99 instant rebate = $59.00 out the door.

Not a bad deal, falls under the $1/gig mark.

Yes, the box says COMPUSA by MAXTOR on it.

The guy at the store I went to had no idea what I was talking about and there were only 2 or 3 of them on the shelf. The sign on the shelf said $59.00 so he verified and confirmed that it was an instant rebate. They had no clue about the $19 DVD player though -- there was a $19 52x CD-ROM though.

Yes its in a Compusa box (Compusa by Maxtor) i bought one yesterday it's a Maxtor DiamondMax Plus ultra 133 7200rpm buffer 2mb avg access time 9.1ms 3yr warranty. I really wasnt looking to buy a hdd but it was so cheap
i had to buy it.

Came back from CompUSA a couple of hours ago and I did get the MadDog dvd rom. There are still a good number of them around and they were not marked as being on sale. Just bring it to the cash register and it'll scan for $49 and some change. It'll also print out the rebate along with your receipt. I think this is a pretty good deal for a dvd drive that can read cd roms at 48x. Not a bad deal at all.

That Maddog DVD rebate is truly suck in the fine print! It requires online registration along with the rest of the mailin stuff (extra work). And then at the very end of the rebate printout from the register (so you can't read it ahead of time and readily opt out?) it says "This offer is no longer valid if not fully redeemed within 3 months from the close of the rebate period (this for the weekend sale that ended 2/17/03). Rebate checks will be mailed in 10 - 12 weeks." Er, isn't 12 weeks just about 3 months? And we all know many rebates arrive late. So, they could invoke the 3 month rule and bounce the rebate check by sending it late! I got it, but I don't like it!

I just tried Freeloaderz link to the product at CUSA and although it's OOS online you can click on the rebate and read the fine print before you buy - wish I had!

I was at my local CompUSA earlier and had to ask about the DVD since the sale didn't show up on the shelves. The guy I asked had to look it up but confirmed the deal. I didn't buy the drive so I can't give any info about the exp date of the rebate.

Wouldn't it be better if the rebate had expired. They are advertising it NOW at $19.00, so they should IR the difference. IMHO that would be the best deal.
