This may be a repost, but I'm not sure.

A couple of weeks ago, CompUSA had their PNY 256MB PC2100 DDR266 RAM for 39.99 a stick out the door, with no rebates. Some people were able to not only take advantage of the pricematch at Circuit City with a $30 rebate and at Best Buy with a $20, but were also able to find some DDR333 PC2700 in the PC2100 packaging.

Well, after raising their price back up in the past two weeks, CompUSA has it again for 39.99. This time Circuit City has a $20 rebate, but I'm not sure about Best Buy.

Again, sorry if this is a re-post

I was at CompUsa today. The one near me doesn't let you browse the ram yourself, what should we look for in the markings to see if we have 2700 DDR ram? Thanks.

Infineon ending -6
Samsung ending -TCB3, TCB0 not as good but usually pc2700. At least from a previous post I've read. I haven't had the luck to find any yet. :(

I saw a ton of TCB0 128 MB ddr's in PNy packaging at several Circuit Cities. But there's no place to PM to for 128 MB pny, only 256.

I saw no Infineon -6's, although I saw one or two -7's.

I bought a stick at CompUSA to PM at BestBuy (they had several PC2700 sticks). Circuit City didn't have any PC2700 (would of been great to PM $39.99 minus $20 rebate). I cam home with two Infinion -6 ram sticks (256mb x 2).

You can browse the RAM, you just gotta ask nicely :) Tell them you are looking for 2 identical sticks, and that requires you to look through the RAM chips and PCBs. Infineons are dual-sided, Samsung are single-sided. They are more than happy to help as it confuses them too much to look for themselves. The guy at my store just handed me 10 or so and I had my matching pair of True Samsung TCB3 chips on a Samsung PCB.

I ransacked memory in all three stores but I could not find any of the elusive inf-6 or TCB3 so I went to circuity city and after looking for a few minutes I decided to settle down for TCB0 plus a $20 MIR . PC2100 256MB for $18AR is a hot deal to me

:(, I went to every single Circuit City and CompUsa near me... couldn't find ANY good/fast ram (of the 256 mb variety). Probably like 7 stores I drove to over 2 days.

Darn.

as sick as i am, i got up to get on this HOT deal. i now have two 256 mb Dimms!!! picked up a TCB3 and TCB0, they were the only Samsung modules, the rest were Infineon 7's.

check this out -- Overclocker's New Zealand says that the TCB3 chips are indeed DDR333 and they're the same ones used on the Corsair XMS!

Ok to get even a hotter deal. You can go to Staples and have them Price match the CompUSA price. They also have a $30 MIR so that brings the cost down to about $3 per stick after the rebate. Now thats a hot deal. Oh by the way the staples I went to had the Infineon 6's and they run fine at PC2700 speed on my 845PE mobo.
Just my 2 cents

man you guys...I just bought the bb deal like last week :(. You al suck...if I weren't so mad, I would return the sticks i bought there and hit up this deal, but alas, it seems sort of out of my way to do so. Memory will always get cheaper, but as long as the one si have get cheaper, I will always be there to PM it :).

Where is this advertised? I went to compusa and they told me they don't know what I'm talking about. What do I have to do to get Staples to PM?

first, i didnt see any $30 MIR on the staples site. so i guess there's no deal or YMMV. check out the compusa site (i think the link above works) and its listed as 39.99. however, it is OOS ...so put in your zip code to get availability. this is what i did when i went to PM at CC, though they didnt give me 110% and i was sick and too tired to argue...20 bux is still a great deal!

All of my chips say "Infineon" on them. Is that good or bad? Also, where does it say "TCB". I can't find that on the chips or the packaging, but it does say -6 on the chips.

Just curious.

FYI - Schaumburg, IL BB (right across the street from CompUSA) has tons of the PNY 256 Samsung TCB3 modules in stock as of 12/28.

Sunrise,Fl - Infineon -6. That's pc333 166 mhz for the uninitiated. Scored 2. Plenty left. When you put in the zip for availability, right click on the pop-up, print it, and take it to your store. Now, what am I gonna do with my Kingston value (no overclocking)ram?
Oh, and thanks for the repost joepapa. I wouldn't have tried a 3rd time w/o it.

I went to my local Compusa in Norfolk VA, and asked would they PM their own website; this is what they told me. We are not affiliated with compusa.com and nor do we match their prices. I finally talked to one of the managers and he told me they would sell me the pny memory for $39. Right, I went to the mem section with one of the compusa moat dragons; they told me they had 7 in stock. When we got to the cabinet he said let me check again because someone had taken all of the pny 256 DDR mem out. He came back and said they did have it in stock but it was defective. They would not sell me the compusa brand pny mem for the same price, I was quoted it would mess up their accounting system. What a bunch of garbage. Does this company suck or what. Now they have the mem on sale for $59 AR. I bet the mem truck shows up late tonight to restock them for tommorrow's super sale.
