Once the Micro Center opened, it was pretty much over for the four or five CompUSA stores around. They closed all of them last year, I think.

Compusa was great if we needed something in a hurry, there are no computer superstores here besides Compusa and far as I know the Compusa here did very very well because of that. Now we can forget getting something the same day if it's an emergency.
Also sucks because it was such a busy store when they do start the clearance, anything worthwhile will be gone by the time they actually start anything more than a 20% discount.

Best Buy really took over. But who really cares? I live in the land of Fry's. I could care less if all of them disappeared. Selection = Fry's. BB is nice for the 10% or 12% coupons but other than that, who wants overpriced crap?
I live down the street from their HQ in Addison. It's a bad sign when their flagship CrapUSA store down the street didn't make the cut last year. Fvck them.

their death is amazingly long. its been years now since i've ever seen one of their stores filled with customers. only went for the rare hotdeal, and even then they were pretty run down.

They pissed a lot of people off with their rebates years ago & I quit buying from them then, they have had an agonizingly slow death....
Wal Mart is hurting the electronics retailers more than anything, they're operating with a slimmer profit margin and carrying a wider selection every year.
Circuit City is next on the chopping block...

Coincedentally, CompUSA bought the Good Guys, then consolidated some of their product lines into select CUSA stores and closed the Good Guys...
The Good Guys used to be the best of their ilk in my area. EXCELLENT customer service, GREAT product lines, from entry-level to high end stereos and televisions, then we were left with Worst Buy and Circuit Jerkit...
"Back in the day", CUSA was one of the "WOW" stores..."LOOKIT all the computer parts!" heh-heh only Fry's had a better selection, and Fry's was almost a 2 hour drive from here.
There used to be a Computer City (Tandy Electronics) store in Pleasanton, which was a decent alternative to CUSA, but then they bought CC and closed the stores...then (for a while) there was Incredible Universe (also Tandy Electronics) within a 2 hour drive, but Fry's bought them out and closed those stores...
Then, I found teh egg...and haven't bought at a B&M store since...with the occasional exception for a massive Fry's sale...

We practically have to live in the land of Newegg, since the only other technology stores in our area are Circuit City and Best Buy. You know... the land of the extended warranties and the $50 Monster cables.
I used to like "The Wiz", but they went outta business as well. Grr.
