CompUSA might be gone by next year

I liked them way back when, but I haven't been there in at least 8 years. I used to drive by it all the time then 6 months-1 year ago, it was just gone. Haven't missed it; a Bodies Exhibit is going up there.

I have a Microcenter a couple of blocks away from me. It's alright if you need something quickly and don't have the time to order online and wait. Though they've started to match online prices.

I found CompUSA to have some really low prices on certain items on occasion. I got an Antec P180b case for $50 after rebate from CompUSA. The lowest Fry's or online elsewhere was $70-80 after rebate.

Competition is good, too bad they had shitty management with no vision.

It's so odd to see a company buy another company to shut it down.

Dallas-based CompUSA said on Friday that active discussions are underway to sell its technical services business, CompUSA TechPro, its online sales operation, CompUSA.com, and select stores in key markets.


How exactly do they sell CompUSA's website? What does someone gain from buying the online sales operation, but not the assets, stores and name?

It was a bit weird. Its computer section catered to tinkerers and yet didn't have the selection or prices a tinkerer is naturally going to take advantage of online and it packaged that in a mega store.

CompUSA surely wasn't the best place to buy computer parts, but they usually had a decent selection and were a great goto place when you needed something now. Once again they were no New Egg or Frys, but they were a hell of a lot better than a PC club or any mom and pop shop I've been too.

Bummer :/

I don't know man. if you want facts, wait it out, see how their stocks do find more insider news. everyday you hear about companies going through stuff like this. it's called SMP500, most richest and poorest of the top 500.

it's not sad either in corporate america. some companies struggle to stay in the top 500, but then get bumped out and others in the 1,000 last half make their way into the top 500 box. all in all, I think if they did things a little more like Best Buy, not that Best Buy is perfect or anything, CompUSA would turn out pretty good. The name alone is a very good name, as far as titles go. But it's how the CEO and the top boards run it. If they're just sittin' on their asses and not visiting the stores and being aggressive enough, yeah, they're gonna get what's comin' - eatin' out of old cereal boxes. Look at Office MAX compared to Office Depot, OFMX is garbage compared to them.

I don't know what the hell I'm gettin' at, but I need to play some Starkrak.

Nobody should be happy about this. Less choices, less competition = bad for consumers.

Their BF deals were good this year too; $450 17" HP laptop was sweet. And their eRebate system is as bulletproof as Staples Easy Rebates.
