No big loss AFAIC. I get most of my stuff online anyway. Usually free shipping and no tax. COMpusa was good when they started but online, IMO, is way better.

Good riddance.

The last time I walked into a CUSA was a year or so ago when they were closing one of the stores in the area, and even the "close-out discount" prices were higher than at any other retailer.

I have not spent a dime at CompUSA in years and have no plans to spend a dime there in the future. They were fine in their time, but now they're overpriced, poorly staffed and have a poor selection of stuff that's largely crap. I won't miss them. I'd like to see their few remaining local stores converted to Fry's.

Fortunately other retailers are moving in over here. CompUSA was the only big name game in town for a long time.

They are the only place locally that I can run out and get some arctic silver 5, which is the only thing I've bought from them for a couple years.

Lemme second the good riddance! I feel sorry for the folks that work there, but I quit going years ago. Really not gonna miss the...

- stupid stuff they put in advertisements but never seem to have in stock
- sale items with 2-3 rebates per item that don't come even when you do submit them
- coupons you can't redeem
- "that's only online" prices
- pinhead manager that won't budge an inch even when you're right
- odd salesperson that follows you around the store "helping" you

Geez, I'm gonna have high blood pressure if I keep this up!

They never did seem to figure out what their niche was. On the one hand they would carry $600 switches (this is a few years back) and a few motherboards and processors...but not really have a full selection of anything. They somewhat catered to businesses but never marketed that aggressively.

They had great prices on things when they had rebates. I got lots of FAR things from there. But the one by men closed in teh other round of closings so the closest one is an hour away.

And here's more info:
http://www.engadget.com/2007/1...rip-compusa-1984-2008/
the WSJ is reporting that the beleaguered big box retailer has been sold to Gordon Brothers Group for liquidation, which will occur shortly after the holidays
