Looked, but couldn't find anyone post this yet. Surpised at this price. On page 5 of today's CompUSA ad is the Maxtor 80GB retail hard drive for $249.99. Price match it a Staples and use on of the Coupons (I know there are $25 off $100, but I think I've heard $40 off $150) for the cheapest I've seen a 80GB drive for...

This looks like a nice deal. $249 - $40 coupon + $30 controller card - $50 MIR = $189 + tax for an 80GB hard drive. Nice!

checked with staple, the rebate says,harddrive start with ST01,ST04,ST06,V06,K01,K04
is this 80G match one of those? it says for drivekits, not 100% sure about just "drive"

The 80 gig mfg part # is K0198000H according to compusa.com so the rebate should apply

A drive kit is just the drive, mounting hardware, and a cable. Nothing more. It's the standard retail package.

correct me if I'm wrong. I remember I saw Bestbuy weekly ads and it's selling this 80gig for $199.99

edit: sorry, it was the same Compusa ads I saw Maxtor 80gig and 40gig versions.
It said 80gig but shows 40gig when I clicked on it. Guess they just put the wrong one on the link between 40gig and 80gig.

Thanks for the link! For some reason, when I search for Maxtor, that drive doesn't come up. Anyway, I tried different area codes, one in NY, one in NJ one in MD and one in PA. None of them had it in stock. Did anyone take advantage of this deal yet? I really want to pick up this drive... hope they stock up soon. The CompUSA price lasts until the end of the week right?

By the way, do I just tell the Staples CSR to look in the CompUSA flyer? Or do I have to point them to the price online? What if they give me some bs about them not having the flyer in front of them?

5400rpm but I read the reviews and this drive isn't all that slow. If you're hungry for disk space, it's worth a shot.

This drive is as fast as a low-capacity 7200RPM drive because of the high data density.

To PM Staples.com with CompUSA, I would point them to CompUSA.com since CompUSA.com allows you to buy a drive from a B&M store and pick it up. You shouldn't have any problems with shipping and/or handling charges. If the Staples CSR doesn't give it to you, hang up and try again!
