It seems CompUSA is selling a store brand hard drive, and Maxtor is the manufacture.
Has anyone had any experience with CompUSA hard drives?

Is there any difference between the line Maxtor makes for them compared to a regular Maxtor drive?

From a previous CompUSA deal, I think most of the people who have bought it are satisfied with the quality. It's probably a rebadged Maxtor or Quantum. The only difference is that the drive has CompUSA on it instead of Maxtor. Hope this helps.

Thank you for the reply. It's a DiamondMax 60GB, 7200 RPM, ATA-100. As a Network Administrator, I've never had any problems with Maxtor drives. However, I've never bought a CompUSA brand drive before. If I were to guess, this drive will live up to the Maxtor name.

Do you agree?

Yes, DiamondMax sounds like the Maxtor line. But I would wait for a reply from someone who actually bought the drive rather than someone who read reviews :p I think once you do so, you can make a more informed decision.

i agree with you on that. again, since Maxtor manufacturers that drive for compusa, i would believe that it wouldn't give me any problems. i will wait for someone to respond that actually has the drive.

Most, if not all, of the Maxtor HD's that are sold under the Compusa box brand come with a 1 year warranty verses the 3 year warranty of the same Maxtor HD. Other than that, the HD's are the same.

CompUSA branded Maxtors (1 yr as 4824guy mentioned) not retail Maxtor-boxed Maxtors (which have 3 yr) the drive itself will have Maxtor on it not CompUSA but if you need (later if at all..) to RMA the S/N will let Maxtor's RMA process know where it originated from. <edited> due to brain failure during typing( g/f on the phone talking at me..lol)
