CompUSA wouldn't hire me either about 5 years ago. I couldn't figure out why. I then ran into the guy who interviewed me about a year later. He had moved onto bigger and better things and no longer worked for CompUSA. He remembered me and explained to me that I was overqualified for the job. As others said here, they want someone who doesn't know anything and can be trained/forced to sell what management wants them to.

I worked at Computer City for 10 months and then for 8 more after they switched over to CompUSA. to answer a few questions people had. Yes they drug test to hire at CompUSA. At least when I was there they wouldn't hire below 18 years old, so that may be why some of you didn't get hired. All CompUSA management I had was stupid, or if they were smart, they got fired early on. The sales people generally know jack, we had a rep from Epson in the store regularly who could answer more questions about anything in the store than any of the sales people. The cashiers either know more than the sales people, or barely speak english. And all the crap you put up with is not worth the pay. However getting stuff at cost was pretty cool and widely abused by me. Also after i quit, I found out that half a dozen people were stealing a crap load from there and at least 4 of them got fired and it took one person who got caught ratting everyone else out for the management to realize.

hmm..funny seeing this thread still exists..

It's fun so far. The ppl aren't too bad, and the perks are amazing! ie: sony ilink cable retails $89, my cost is $30.. which is good, because you can use it to link ps2's. Yeah, I have to put up with some real $hit, but it's not too bad overall. Besides, you meet some cool ppl... who might be useful later!
