They also have the 4-Pack of RayOVac AA Utra NiMH batteries buy one/ get one free ( CompUSA SKU# 276557). You end up payng $12.99 + tax for eight batteries. You can find cheaper AA NiMHs online, but by the time you pay postage, these are still cheaper. In addition, you are getting brand name NiMHs with a one year warranty. If you can find the 1800 mAh RayOVac AA cells at your local B&M then this deal is even sweeter.😉

Big Lots - still has the Epson 1500mAh for $4.99 per 4-pack....

$9.98 for 8!

edit - should read Panasonic 1600mAh, not Epson (had a set of each in the MAHA chargers and pulled the wrong battery for information)

1800mAh rating of the RayOVacs and a one year warranty vs a dismal 1500mAh rating for no name and no warranty Big Lots batteries =
BIG a difference. 1500mAh in a AA NiMH is sux.

Allisolm, please excuse the following rant....

1. the batteries are made by Panasonic, available at Big Lots;

2. not everyone has CompUSA in their "backyard"

3. most CompUSAs don't have this item "in-store"

4. shipping "kills" the perceived CompUSA hot deal (as would driving 2.5 hours)

5. the Panasonics also have a one-year warranty

6. and Ray-O-vac is a 'top-of-the-line' battery????

My Kodak DC290 will not even power-up with batteries rated above 1600mAh - limitation of the camera to prevent damage to the electronic circuitry. Furthermore, if you really want to whine about it, you can usually pick-up 1800mAh Nexcells for ~$1.60 - $1.80 per battery on e-Bay. So, unless you have personally had actual problems with either brand of battery, your "criticism" of the batteries represent nothing more than a personal bias.

Since when have "alternative" deals been bashed???? Not everyone has a CompUSA nearby (closest for me is TWO PLUS HOURS AWAY - and shipping costs almost alway kills any hot deal! The purpose of these threads is to provide additional information, updates, or alternatives - not bash another item/source/opinion on an item or alternative item. If you have had a problem with the Panasonic batteries from Big Lots which many people snapped-up (Panasonic NiMH AA 1600mAh 4 Pk $4.99), then please post what problems you had. But to simply to bash a post because it's an item/brand/retailer you personally don't like (for whatever personal reason), is counterproductive and uncalled for.

Just because it's not a "hot deal" for you, doesn't mean it's not a hot deal for someone else. The purpose of these threads is to alert others to hot deals and their alternatives....

ok, well, look at teh jackass with the tude.

FYI: Not everybody has a Big Lots in their backyard....

I don't think Panasonic is a "no name" company and the package states "
1 Year Warranty This product will be free from defects in material and workmanship. If such defect appears we will repair or replace your product (at our option) without charge. Simply return the product with proof of purchase to: 30305 Solon Road. Solon Oh. 44139. Naturally, this commitment does not cover normal wear and tear, misuse or neglect. This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights which may vary from state to state."

Hmm...sounds like warranty to me. Furthermore, these batteries are 1600 mAh and not 1500 mAh as stated. Lastly, there are made in Japan versus Rayovac (made where?).

Powerex is the top name in rechargeable batteries. I got 8 1800's off of ebay with a maha 204cf (top charger), for $46 shipped. Would pay a couple $$ extra for them any day over rayocracks!

what do they want as proof for norton upgrade rebate?

When I did this rebate back in May from Staples(got both rebates this week), you have to print out the Norton Product screen. I followed the instuctions on the rebate form that was over at Amazon (http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B00005QWZA.01.RB02.LZZZZZZZ.jpg) read the fine print, before running out to Staples to buy it. I had Anti-Virus preinstalled and they accepted that with no problems. Hope this helps.

According to CompUSA website, the $30 Mfr Upgd Mail-in rebate expired on 8/10. It doesn't list any available rebates for this. It also says it is 89.99 in store (69.99 internet price)

Well, I wouldn't count too much on the website since this is an in-store deal. All the bundles in my store had $30 upgrade rebate stickers on them valid from 09/06/2001 to 12/31/2002.

unfortunately I can't find the scan I made of the upgrade rebate I submitted, but what 1Cheap2Crazy said is pretty much true. There are some other proofs they will accept, like the front page of the mcafee manual. of course the front page from a symantec manual should qualify, too, but I went the print-screen route. they won't take photocpies of cds. you also need a piece from the box of the newly purchased product, receipt, etc etc.

the upgrade rebate coupon is inclede in the box. the box should say something about it and list the expiration date. you can submit like 5 upgrades. I think the actual promotion doesn't end for a while (maybe 2003?).

To re-enforce the idea that these Big Lots Panasonics are good batteries, I saw the exact same batteries (not the same packaging) selling for 12.99 for a 2 (TWO) pack. That my friend, it not any cheaper than the RayOvacs. I have to mention that I like RayOvacs, especially their 1 hour quick changer.

Don't waste your time and aggravation on the Air Duster. Both times I did this, it took over 6 months to get one of them, and for the other, I had to get reimbursed at my CompUSA store.

TCA New Rochelle. Need I say more??

Wait for a freebie from Belkin at OM (at least every 2 months or so).

Norton Systemworks will eventually be free without an upgrade requirement. Wait for it, especially if TCA is involved this time.

I went by CompUSA (Monrovia, CA) today to get in on this deal. Intersting Note: Each 4-pack rings up separately at $6.49. I'm guessing that if you go up to the counter with just one package, they're not going to hassle you to get a second. Great if you just need 4 batts. They are rated 1600 mAh... couldn't find any 1800 mAh.
