While at the mall today (Lubbock Texas), I stopped by the CompUSA to pick up a flyer. Anyhow, that's a totally different thread at a totally differnt forum.

Anywho, there's an ad in the flyer that states "80.0GB 7200RPM 8MB Cache HDD" for $69.99" and then under all that in really small print it says "after $60 MIR"... so what I'm thinking about doing is going to BB and get them to price match that drive for $69.99 + 10%(from the 110% price match). So you get the drive out the door for $63.99 (or close to it)... then the optional "MIR/Return" deal from CompUSA.

So all in all, you can get the 80GiB 8MB Cache drive out the door for $63.something, which is one helluva deal.

What'ya think?

(Btw, I appologize for the "stupid comments", I was a bit drunk and I realize now I shouldn't have even posted that on here... my circumstances are bit different being how I have freinds in "all the right places" to grease my deal through the door.)

I think you price matching logic is flawed and that Bestbuy won't match that price due to the rebate.

I also think that "real flyer hacking" sounds like you are going to photoshop a ad and try to pass it off as a original to some other B&M or something.

I also think this is probably not the best way to start your posting here at the Anandtech Forums.

You asked...

Don't be stupid and get yourself thrown in jail. If you want to talk about stuff like that find somewhere to do it. Here's what I would tell you to do and it would be a lot more legal. Just take the ad to Circuit City and sometimes they will match the after rebate price. Don't risk going to jail over $10-20, that's just plain stupid.

the jails are full of idiots who think they can get away with something they consider "easy" because they are so stupid they don't even know they are stupid. why deprive the prisons of another "good ol' boy"?

If he was saying he would get the CUSA MIR, reutrn the drive to CUSA and then get the price match at BB, and then mail in the MIR, it wouldnt work anyway. By returning the drive to CUSA, he ouwld have to return the reciept and stuff thats needed to get the MIR. And we all know how not sending in the rigth papaerwork gives them the chance to not refund the MIR.

Hopefully the whole jail thing you guys are talking here about is a bit tongue in cheek. I mean really now! Suppose there is somebody that actually has enough of the "iggnernt" type of balls to walk into BB with this bogus price match and you're saying the 24,000 a year manager is going to call the cops on you?!?! yea right! On what grounds? You're an idiot? I think he would rather just take the opportunity to laugh in your face...

This doesn't have anything to do with wether the manager would or wouldn't call the cops but..the manager at my local best buy bought a car from me and stated his income at 4 times the amount mentioned.Your assumption that he is a uneducated low paid individual is probably wrong. That would be a solid income for a 28 yr old without a college degree,so i assume he's pretty dam sharp.I'm also shure he has strict corporate guidelines for dealing with that type of thing, fraud, theft, etc.Involving police may be what is REQUIRED for him to do.

I was in Best Buy last night trying to find a Logitech MX700 in stock (no luck). As I was leaving the store, a cop car was out front and I walked right by a cop cuffing someone in the corner of the exit out front. That could be you bro... ;)

Jesus people... if you haven't noticed, when you return a drive they don't "take the receipt" as you guys have previously stated. And beside, if I know someone at the CSR desk, and they wave me through... I'M RIGHT. So, put that in your pipe and smoke it. I've been doing this sorta thing for YEARS and so long as you are smart and know how the systems work, you are GOLD!

More power to you, bro. However, I'd stay away from this -- it's not for me.

Actually physically altering a flyer like that is a very serious form of fraud, the chances of you getting caught are admittedly small, but the potential loss is really high. You never know if someone tried to do the same PM before you and the if the guy saw the ad very closely the last time. When you bring up your altered ad, he might actually have to inform law enforcement - it is very different from BSing a CSR. All the evidence is in the guy's hand, and you would suddenly find yourself in need of a good lawyer.
