If they ACTUALLY offer cost+5/10% (and it will most likely be highest cost over past 6-12 months), it will be good for accessories only. retailers make jack on the hardware itself (towers, laptops, etc)
Not too hot IMO, but if they offer real cost you can get USB & network cables for a couple bucks

Ah, I remember my days at CompUSSR (back before someone made up that name). A $29.99 printer cable had a cost of $1.67. What a margin.

They still do.

I believe a 6FT cable @ 21.99 is like $1.50 @ cost..

Ethernet is the same.

Do we really have to know someone that works at CompUSA or as long we have the flyer we'll get the discount? Very much like Friends and Family weekend of OfficeMax.

Thanks

Well then, that's that lol. The cable thing is definitely true though. Microcenter used to always have 86%-95% off sales on cables (don't know what happened with that). I got all of my USB2 and ethernet cables there. I guess now that it's becoming more popular than Best Buy and CompUSA, they don't need to give the discounts anymore. But they could definitely sell that low without losing money since they offered them for like at least two years if I remember correctly.

What do you guys think the margin is on things like speakers? I'd like to get a 7.1 set or a nice 5.1 (energy or polk or something). What is the markup over cost to begin with on items like that? Are speakers considered accessories?

Bose & Alpine products don't qualify; I don't know if that leaves other speakers that qualify. I'm betting they'll tell you computer speakers are accessories.

You should be able to get a decent deal on digital cameras. If Dell can have 20% or more discount coupons for digital cameras and add in a stackable coupon on top of that, the margins for digital cameras have to be pretty good.

Hmmm, I wonder about PC games. Anyone have any ideas on those?

Edit: As i reread the flyer, I'm guessing these aren't covered. So, never mind.

I doubt their margin is so low. I saw the BFG 6600GT OC at my local CompUSA and it was retailing for $250 two days ago when I picked up BF2. I know that card is only $170~$185 their cost as of MAY 05 (my best friend works at a large computer hardware distribution company) and told me about their cost as of MAY, a month before the launch of the 7800GTX so I doubt that their actual "COSTs" are still that high. I will be at thier store tomorrow morning and see if they really do indeed offer "COST" + 5/10% on the Video Card I want and other parts. We'll see how it goes. 😉

You're forgetting that their "cost" is not actually "cost"

Anyone have an idea of the type of markup on Monster Cables? I'm looking to pick up some component cables but they seem really expensive. Thanks.

Edit - Nevermind, only TVs and Home Audio items.

99% of me believes you, 1% of me would like to believes their cost will be an "Actual Product COST from Manufacturer + Their Processing Cost + Operations Cost + Marketing Cost + other BS Cost you can possibly think of = a Price lower than their Full Retail but still far from the "ACTUAL COST"

If that so called "COST" is in my ball park, I just might act on it.

But woulnd't this be considered "False Advertisement?" I guess they can get away with it since they did not specify what cost....

Let's see how it goes...

BFG 6600GT OC PCI-E at CompuUSA "COST" $203 + 5% = $213.15 + 8.25% Tax = $230.73

Hot? NOT!

Can get it at Monarch for $223 + Free Game and NO CA SALES TAX!
