Just got my flyer for B&M and have to head out for awhile, but these two deals were too hot not to post them now!:)

Retail boxed WD 120GB special edition (8mb/7200rpm) drive for $149.99 after savings & mail in rebate.

Retail boxed Compusa (Maxtor) 100GB 5400 rpm for $99.99 after savings & mail in rebate.

When I get home later, I will check out the flyer in depth, and update this post with other "hot deals";)

OK, I just got home, & will now update this post.
1.) Tot says:
Hmm the 120 GB hard drive is not SE as the website stated the model to be BBRT and not JBRT which would be the special edition.
The ad specifically says"8MB Cache" and"Rivals SCSI Performance". Therefore, I beg to differ, this IS the SE drive. It is Compusa # 293303
The sale price is $269.99 less $120 MIR.

2.) The Maxtor 100GB is 5400 with a one year warranty, according to this Price is $119.99 less $20 MIR

Now to move on to other items:

Maxtor 160GB for $279.99 less $50 MIR = $229.99 #286676
Sony 32x10x40 internal #289664 for $79.99 less $20 MIR = $59.99
Pacific Digital 48x12x48 Internal for $99.99 less $20 MIR=$79.99 #294068
QUE 32x10x40 Internal $69.99 less $20 MIR= $49.99 #292630
PNY 50-Pack CD-R for $9.99 less $8 MIR = $1.99 #288533
Imation 100-Pack CD-R $29.99 less $22 MIR=$7.99#290364
Envision EN-710 17" monitor #280665 $149.99 less $60 MIR= $89.99
Neverwinter Nights for $54.99, but mail in for $10 gift card. Not a great deal, but a pretty good game!
"Mad Dog" Performer 16MB PCI video card $39.99 less $20 MIR= $19.99 #289966
Lasonic DVD/CD/VCD/MP3 player 290317 $59.99

Just a sign of caution. CompUSA rebates are no good, I had two that were never received.
Make sure you know that before you jump on a "deal."
And I am not the only one complaining.

And I am not the only one complaining.

And I am not the only one to say that I have gotten all my CompUSA rebates. There were two (out of more than 20) that I had problems getting and I went to the store and they made those right without any hassle.

So "CompUSA rebates are no good" certainly doesn't apply to everyone. As with most deals -Your Mileage May Vary.

the key is to make copies of EVERYTHING you send in. If the rebate is big, i suggest certified mail (altho, that's getting a price jack soon :(). Then if you don't get it... to the general manager of the store in which the rebate is in question. I've only had to do it once w/ the compusa palm/maxtor deal way back.. they didn't accept my UPC for the palm. It stated clearly a copy would be accepted.. got credit back to my credit card.

I'll have to agree with Allisolm. Sure I've had some problems with rebates advertised by CompUSA (and other companies as well), but nothing that couldn't be cleared up with a fax and proper documentation. Last year I had almost 200 rebates; so far I haven't received around 5, 2 of them CompUSA (I wonder if they are the same 2 as everyone else), but I haven't called to complain yet. I guess I should do that soon.

I get all my rebates from everybody, because I keep track and after 10 weeks call.

What I have foudn with the CompUSA rebate (tcarebates handles then usually) is that they are always due right after I call... Like if I had called three weeks before they would have been due to arrive then too.

Rule of thumb, always keep copies, and always call if it doesn't show.

I have made copies of everything, I called the rebate company, told me they were going ot send me a rebate, called CompUSA told me they were going to get me the rebate. Been 5 months, no rebate, they lied to me. CompUSA rebates are no good, you just got lucky. Now Staples rebates, there is no luck involved with them. Besides CompUSA service is horrid, avoid that place like the plague. Oh, and the rebates that you have the worst problem with are the ones for the "hot" deals.

Yea, COMPUSA REBATE SUCKS AND THEY LIE!!!

I bought Euro Fighter 2000(PC game) in 1996 and it had a $20 or $30 rebate from COMPUSA. I never received a check and they lied and said I bought the game after the promotion ended. I'm 100% sure that I bought and sent the rebate before the promotion ended but I didn't copy them before I mailed so I just gave up. THAT WAS THE LAST THING I BOUGHT FROM COMPUSA!

No wonder why people call them "CRAP USA". 90% of my Crap USA's rebates always were overdue. Usauslly takes at least 4 months. The longest one took me 6 months. No matter how offen I called in to complain.!! I try not to jump on any Crap USA deals if it's not super hot.!! Not worth my time.

Think twice if you want to wait for that long.!!!

I'm always amazed by the discrepency between those who hate CompUSA and those who have no problems with them. Since 1999, I've filed nearly $3000 in rebates; a very large percentage of them on CompUSA purchases. To date, I have failed to collect on just 2 rebates ($28 total), both purchased from Staples. I call up no more than 5 times per year to speed things up. That's it. Sometimes, it's just a matter of being patient and letting things trickle through the system. Other times, phone calls do the trick. A lot depends on your tolerance for delays. The way I see it, for every rebate I get well before the 8 or 10 or 12 week period stated on the form, another will likely be delayed by as much; so I take the good with the bad, the fast with the slow. So long as I get my money in the end, of course !

Yep still waitting on a rebate from March. They have both been approved just they are too lazy to send it, and their estimated ship date they missed by over 3 weeks now. I think we should start a class action lawsuit suing for excessively long delays, and sue for the the intrest on the $ after say a month (which staples usually gets within).

I dunno but I'm gonna bet their 100gb drive is a Maxtor, honestly I dunno if it is still the same price but the 120GB drive from Frys a while back is a much better deal and no rebates, more expensive but better transfer (Western digital rocks!).

Thanks for the heads up DUKAT1.

Let me throw in my .02 to the CompUSA / TCA rebate issue. Off all the rebates I have done in the past several years CompUSA / TCA rebates are about the worst. For the past year none of the CompUSA / TCA sponsored rebates have been on time. They have given me some type of crap on at least half of them. Let me give you an example. I purchased a CompUSA branded floppy drive with a $5 CompUSA rebate on 12/30/2001. I mailed the rebate on 1/1/2002. When they finally added it to the wheresmyrebate.com site (which by the way is a very appropriate website name for TCA) it had an estimated check mail date of 4/12 which is over 4 months from the date I mailed my rebate. When it didn't show up by 4/12 I called them and they said the check mail date was pushed back to 5/13. When 5/13 rolled around I called them again and they said they did not know when my $5 check would be mailed. Ha, what a crock. I finally had to go to the CompUSA B&M to complain. The rebate person gave me my $5 cash but get this, she tells me when I get the $5 check from TCA to bring it in to them. Yeah, right.

BTW, I have received 100% of my CompUSA sponsored rebates but I have had to spend a tremendous amount of my time copying the rebate documents, following up and calling the rebate center and sometimes having to go back to the B&M store to get my money.

I didn't mean for this to be a thread crap but every time someone posts a CompUSA deal with rebate a lot of folks come back with negative feedback about their rebates. And I don't blame them. If I thought it would help I would file a complaint with the FTC.

Hmm

the 120 GB hard drive is not SE as the website stated the model to be BBRT and not JBRT which would be the special edition.
Therefore this deal is not hot.

Rebates bad.

Best case scenario, wait 6 months. More often wait for nothing.

Boycott rebates: Tell the manufacturers we're not that stupid.

no...dude said

Retail boxed Compusa (Maxtor) 100GB 5400(?)rpm for $99.99 after savings & mail in rebate.

notice that ? mark thing...to me that seems to be a guess and i'm wondering if anyone knows for certain....although, you can pretty much assume its not 7200 because then it would actually be a hot deal from CompUSA..

I have to agree with most threads here.

I have gotten all my rebates, except for my special $80 Western Digital. That was because the terms of WD rebates is absolute crap. 1) Have to purchase it within a certain time, 2) Have to send it within a certain time, 3) Have to be received at certain time. So basically I was on the tail end of the rebate period, but because USPS screwed up it wasn't received until 1 business day AFTER the end of the receive date. Thus I was denied. Pissed me off for about a week and a half.

Anyway, the main rule is for ANY rebate, always keep documentation. I've had it so they say that certain things weren't included when they were etc. So I ask if I can just fax them a copy of everything. BINGO.

Bump cause I updated the original post.

Yes, it IS the SE 120GB drive.

Yes, although I was guessing before, it is now confirmed that the 100GB drive is 5400, and according to the product description, only has one year warranty.

And, to give my take on Compusa rebates, they have always been prompt for me. The only rebate I did not receive from them was one that I waited one day too long to mail, so it was MY FAULT that it was denied. The funny thing was that the item had two seperate rebates, both mailed in a day late, and the other one was approved.:Q:cool:

And one more note: I had one Compusa rebate that had to be mailed within 14 days of purchase. Once again I waited one day too long. However, the date on the copy of the receipt was "magically changed" to a date two days later, still within the rebate purchase period, and that rebate was approved, and received.:D

Just came back from going to Compusa to check on that Western Digital drive. I looked at the ad and the rebate, and there is a curious discrepancy.

The advertisement says that the drive (SKU # 293303) is the one on sale for $299.99 - 30 instant savings - 120 mail in rebate = $149.99

It is clearly referring to the Special Edition version of the drive (WD1200JBRTL), which also has SKU # 293303

However, on the rebate itself, it says that the rebate is valid for model number WD1200BBRTL.

not quite sure what to make of this, but i asked the sales guy and he said it is a mistake and i should still get the rebate, but i'm not sure i want to risk $120 on that...

any thoughts?
