CompUSA closing all stores

postmortemIA

Diamond Member
LOS ANGELES, Dec 7 (Reuters) - CompUSA, the computer and gadget retailer controlled by Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim, has been sold to a restructuring and investment firm that will close stores and sell some company assets.

...

The chain's 103 retail stores will remain open and staffed during the holiday season, offering discounts on computer and electronics ahead of the planned store closures.

Half of them closed last year, I think at this part of year, rest is closing soon.. so it is good idea to scavenge the local store, if you have one.

This degenerated rather quickly.

Anyway to find out which stores are still open? The Store Locater on their site doesn't seem too accurate.

I quit buying anything at CompUSA when the company got sold to the Mexican conglomerate. It's bad enough buying Made in China crap from American retailers, I sure don't have to buy the same Made in China crap from a Mexican...😉
I for one won't shed a tear at their closing.

I've always disliked CompUSA until my bro started working there. Their employee discounts are amazing. My bro got a 2yr protection plan on a 8800gt for like 10 bucks. That's on top of their already damn good discounts on the actual product.

Makes me wish CompUSA would've given me a call instead of CircuitCity. I hope CC goes out of business.. feel indifferent towards CompUSA.

I find them overly priced, I havent shopped there in years.

Agreed. Their prices were always too high. The only upside is that they rarely had stuff in stock that other stores didn't have in NYC. One time I was looking for a particular outdated MiniDV camera, and CompUSA happened to be the only store that still had it. lol

damned good discounts on actual products? Wow. Smoking tonight? =-) A 500$ card online will cost you like $630 in their stores.

He means employee discounts.

WRONG....

According to the Wall Street Journal

CompUSA to Close All Stores
By Gary Mcwilliams

Mexican telephone and retail magnate Carlos Slim, in a rare defeat, will exit the U.S. consumer electronics market, shutting the last 100 CompUSA Inc. stores after sinking about $2 billion into the business.

Ahem... I was simply referring to the article posted in the OP not mentioning all stores closing.

You needn't be a dickhead about it.

yeah this is a pretty idiotic comment considering almost any company is at least partly owned by non americans.

the sad thing is you are posting this on a computer forum. seeing as its impossible to buy a fully made in the USA computer.

face it the USA doesnt make all of anything anymore

Maybe, but it's a free country... he can say what he wants.

Don't work so hard to take offense.

Nation != race in the modern world.

Mexican in his post and in the article refers to the country of Mexico not necessarily someone of mixed Spanish and Aztec descent. Someone born in Mexico is a Mexican, that same person born in the States would be an American.

It isn't racist to recognize that globalism is a mixed bag.

Then I simply suggest that you do your research before making your original disparaging remarks to others....

The article nicely says "will close the stores" and "The chain's 103 retail stores will remain open and staffed during the holiday season" which implies they all will be closed after the holiday season.
