Compusa ATT AT&T Wireless G PCMCIA 54mbps Card $9.99

i bought this last week with their pdf sale @ $12.99 + tax
works with 166mmx thinkpad even
now if i could figure how to remove ibm proprietary card locks on the laptop...

Got in on this last week when all the stores sold out. Hopefully it won't have software problems like others over at FW have reported...

Will any of these PCMCIA cards work in a standard 16-bit "PCCard" slot, not a 32-bit "Cardbus" slot? I have an older laptop without Cardbus.

I bought the PCI adapter (model 6500G) and had some issues with the drivers running on my win98se box.

I posted my problems in the compusa thread a week or two ago and someone posted a link to the Atheros chip-set drivers -- and they work great. He said in his post that he uses them with his at&t pcmci card.

credit goes to chrisram -- HERE is the link

Cruez -- you might want to google for atheros drivers -- I found a "custom" driver that sounded pretty cool for linux. I think it was madwifi or something like that.

I bought it a few months back. It works well with Dlink and netgear routers..... Much much better than the crappy airlink cards from Fry's.

Wow. The card I printed a coupon for and stood in line for to buy at $12.99 a couple weeks ago is now $9.99 otd!

Does compusa have a price gaurantee?
I won't drive all that way for $3, but if I go in to browse for something anyway $3 would pay for gas + a wendys double-stack.

Same here - I can't figure out why there's so much excitement over the Lynksys, Netgear and Dlink for 2-3 times the price with multiple rebates. It does the job, cheap out the door and no waiting for rebates. Who cares what name is on the box!

I got one to replace my D-Link DWL-650+ 802.11b card. Even though my router is still 802.11b, my speed is has more than doubled with this AT&T card. I used to get ~300KB/sec with the D-Link card. Now ~800KB/sec with the AT&T. I have also noticed that the "propietary" software for both cards is nearly identical.

its available in store in CT, and i remember looking up info on the pci card when i was planning on sticking it in my MythTV box, I read that it ran under most recent linux without messing with anything.

the software isnt bad. and i set up one of the wireless G cards on a laptop i eBay'ed and it does work fine. I havent checked the routers yet...
