Is anyone familiar with this drive?

c-net review...But I'm not certain if this review is for this exact model.

Be prepared to wait for months on end for your QUE/QPS rebate. I just got mine last week after about 5-1/2 months and many hours of emailing, phoning, and worrying.
If you do a search for QPS or QUE REBATE on all of the forums you will find a couple of threads where everyone was having the same problem.
If you ask me, QUE finally fulfilled those old rebates now(maybe after warning from CompUsa) so they could run this latest set of rebates (QUE DVD-R & this CDRW). Now they can borrow other folks money and draw interest on it for another 5-6 months.
Thanks for the post, just don't count on receiving rebate anytime soon.

Same with you too huh. I sent mine in at 9/1/2001 and just got it last week. Worst service ever!

I got one too and I didn't call or bother them. So, maybe calling them doesn't really do as much as I'd hoped.

And it is not the worst rebate. The worst ones are the ones that never come. And I have one that is 8 month old that I am still waiting on.

I agree with the "worst rebate ever" part. Strangely enough, I called them on 2/26, and bitched that I hadn't received it yet, even though it showed an estimated mail date of 12/22. They informed me that the date should have been revised to 1/22. When I informed her that was still over a month ago, she told me she could be of no further assistance, and asked if she could help with anything else. I asked how the hell it would be anything else, as she'd yet to help with anything at all, hung up the phone, and wrote a nasty email to them. When I received the check last week, it was dated 2/28...I thought perhaps my contacting them had helped - guess not!

Beware this is not an original QPS Que drive that many of you may have bought before. This drive is not made by Sanyo and has no FCC ID so there is no way to find out who makes the insides or where to go for a firmware upgrade. CDR-Win will not recognize this drive and you will have many other problems. Normaly the QPS Que 24x is a Sanyo CRD-BP1500 and will be recognized as such by Windows. This drive will be recognized as 24rw01i by Windows with no mention of a manufacturer. Just FYI.

I bought this drive in Sep 2001. My drive is made by Sanyo and excluding sucky iMac-ish look the drive rocks.
The rebate however is a different story. Probably the worst rebate I've ever had. I think QPS is just one big scam. It took 5.5 months to come.
Honestly I would recomend keeping away from this deal unless you are willing to sacrifice the rebate amount or 100h nerves on the phone.

The first QPS/QUE! 24X CD-RW drives released were indeed Sanyo's but the most, including the current production are Lite-On drives with Smart-Burn technology. If CDR-Win is not recognising recognizing your drive in your setup, then you do not have the lastest updates to CDR-Win or perhaps a pirated copy using one of the blacklisted S/Ns that CDR-Win program updates ignore. We have both versions of this QUE! 24X CD-RW drive and they both work just fine with CDR-Win.

QPS uses Sanyo drives when they first introduce a new higher speed CD-RW drive because Sanyo is usually first to market with such drives and the first to offer them to OEMs. As more OEMs offer a comparable CD-RW drive, QPS often switches suppliers to stay competitive. The newest QPS 32X CD-RW drive is a Sanyo just like the TDK 32X CD-RW drive, but as prices drop QPS will most likely switch to Lite-On once again.

For me, as long as I eventually get my rebate, I'm pretty happy!

I bought a QPS DVD-RAM/R drive in late November and got my $50 rebate a couple of weeks ago. So, from my limited experience with QPS rebates, I've been pretty happy.

I do not believe that these new drives are made by Lite-On. I checked on CDRinfo.com as well and there was no mention of it. Where are you getting the info regarding the lite-on?
