n00b question here...

whats the difference between the
Connect Computers Lightscribe Internal IDE DL DVD+/-RW Drive and the Connect Computers Internal IDE DL DVD+/-RW Drive??

Also, I noticed this for 29.99 after MIR and all: Sony DVD+/-RW+/-R DVD-RAM CD-RW Drive

Is the Sony worth that price difference 29.99 vs 7.99 since it seems to do the same thing.

And, the interface...the first two have IDE, and the Sony has ATA...whats that?

Again, sorry for the n00b questions....!

The first Connect Computers drive supports lightscribe, the 2nd one doesn't. All three of the drives you mention are IDE. ATA is now called Parallel ATA (PATA) to distinguish it from serial ATA (SATA). "IDE" and "ATA" or "PATA" are often used interchangeably.

Edit: Damn you HeroOfPellinor 😛

Wow...thats sweet...didnt know about that feature in burners....

Guess I'll go with that...unless Sony has some major advantage over them (other than the brand..)...and assuming the litscribe can still burn regular CDs/DVDs...just without the top design

Thanks Nick5324 and HeroOfPellinor...and ofcourse, OP!

The thing about LightScribe is that it can take 30 minutes to etch a label... and I personally don't have the patience for that.

yeah..noticed on the site nick mentioned that it needs special discs....
but as long as it can burn regular discs...no harm having that extra feature lying around

Thinking of buying one for my parents...noise probably isnt a big factor for them...atleast they'll know its working 😛

Just got one. The 340022 is indeed the BenQ 1655, which has very good reviews. The drive has a BenQ label, and a BenQ warranty sheet, Nero software too. A bargain kids. Get one......

Everytime I see a sale like this I miss the B-Buy BF sale even more.

MIR are the suxxors

This is an electronic rebate. Compus has been very good lately with these. I picked one up. About $11.00 after taxes for me for a really nice burner. I'm using it right now to burn my first lightscribe disk!

I need to learn about wireless at some point. I have a PC with comcast cable modem; if I put a second computer in another room, other than being able to transfer files over the wireless, what does this wireless equipment do that's useful? I'd think I'm better off buying a second wired jack ($5/month) for the cable modem for internet?

you will have to have a router anyway, unless your cable provider gives you another IP addy, the router will allow you to get on the internet and if wireless, you wont have to run cable through your house.

Tell me about it; I don't see how my store could have sold out so quickly though

Anyone know what the 340024 DVD burner is? I ran out to Compusa (at a horrendously busy mall) special to pick up the 34002 (which they indicate is on stock when you check online) but they were, of course, out of stock on the 34002 but had plenty of 340024 models (same sale price).

It really bugs me that CompUSA's internal computer network can show an accurate report whether something is in-stock but they can't do it online.

Well, their online inventory does say it's accurate as of about 3AM of that day, so if you're there at 11AM, things could be gone. I always call the store and ask before I go if I think they might be out.
