Does anyone know anything about that Que! drive? I'm in the market for a CDRW drive, but I don't want one that's going to give me a lot of problems. I know, I should go with Plextor, etc, but this just looks like a great deal, and I was hoping someone could tell me if it's a rebadge. Thanks!

Que is not burn-proof with 8mb buffer. AFAIK, the only company to make those is Yamaha.

Thank you for the info. Hmm...well, I want BURNproof, but an 8 MB buffer would probably do the trick just as well. Does anyone have any experience with these drives?

If this helps, I shopped real hard all over the forums and everywhere for a CDRW and found this one just could not be beat. The reviews are great. Best bang for the buck.

LITE-ON LTR-24102B-02 24x10x40 CDRW....$80...plus....$5 FedEx Saver shipping at NewEgg

If this link fails, just search NewEgg for the above drive.

Yamaha is not the only company that uses BUrn Proof technology. Que drives use it too. they started with their 12x lines and up i think. they call it BUrn Proof now as in 'Buffer Under Run Proof'
I have the 8x4x32x which is a plextor. it wasn't even rebadged. everything says plextor except the firmware.

ZDnet gave the 24x Que a great review. said it out performed the plextor by 28%.

I did some research on the QPS website and found out that this drive does not have BURNproof, but it does have an 8MB buffer. The 24X version (still QPS) DOES have BURNproof and has only a 2MB buffer. That shouldn't be a problem, though. lifeisgreat, thanks for the heads-up on the NewEgg deal. Off to check it out...

I have a 12x drive with 8mb buffer w/o burnproof.

I have had no problems.

I'm not doing crazy things while I burn CDs, but I use the internet and launch applications and such....

No coasters.

lifeisgreat - have you received the drive yet? Did you buy the OEM...and if you did, what software (if any) did it come with? It looks to me like for $2 more all you get is a box, a CDR disc and a CDRW disc...doesn't seem worth it to me. But if the difference is that it comes with software, I'd go for retail. PM me if you want...or turn your PMs on and I'll PM you :) Thanks!

I also got the 24x this past week and it seems to be an excellent fast drive. From the reviews I have read, it is a rebadged Sanyo drive.

ricerx, clammy3 i believe was referring to the fact that yamaha are one of the few who slap 8MB, if not only, buffers on their drives (this would also indicate it's a pretty old drive, i'd go for a liteon for the extra $35)... not that yamaha is the only company that has burn proof.

Just for clarification folks, if indeed the ad is for the 20X drive, then it is not the Sanyo rebadge. The Sanyo rebadge only comes in a 24X flavor, not a 20X version. QPS makes two different, distinct drives that are often confused because of the 4X difference in write speed. The 20X has been seen for kinda cheap at various places within the last week. The 24X generally doesn't dip below $80 after rebates, etc.

Peace

I got the 24X last weekend at the 2 day sale for 69. Needless to say, if this is the same thing, I will be pricematching.

For what it is worth, it seems to be a great drive, comes with nero, is speedy etc. I bought it based on the combined strength of a 9/10 cnet review and the low price...

FYI - Not all 24X Que! drives are Sayno rebadges either. While the earlier runs of Que! drives were indeed Sanyo rebadges, the lastest ones are not . They new ones are using the Justlink buffer underrunn technology so they can't be Sanyo's. Basically Que! changes manufacturers each production run. This is also evident if you visit the Que! tech support site.

metalhawk,

I don't think you'll be able to price match against this drive because it's the 20x10x40x drive, not the 24x10x40 that you apparently purchased.

Yeah, the recent QPS drives from CompUSA are not Sanyo... they're made by some no-name company. Ultratech or something? I'll yank this drive out of my sis's computer and take a look.

I bought it...came to $91.xx with shipping and tax since I live in CA, but I still think I got a pretty good deal for a 24X Lite-On burner. Thanks for all the feedback!
