Compulsive throat clearers

91TTZ

There's a new guy at my job who sits a few cubicles over. He's a compulsive throat clearer. About once every minute he needs to clear his throat in a very loud and disgusting manner. It will be quiet in the office and then you hear this sound which can only be described as being similar to the sound that a dog makes when it barks under its breath (if you have a dog you'll know what I mean).

At first I thought he just had a cold or something but after the weeks and now months passed I realized that he just does this out of habit. It's extremely annoying. It sounds like he's hocking up a loogie each time, and it has a nasal element to it as if he's clearing mucus out of his nose and throat at the same time. The sound is also identical each time so this guy has it down to a routine. Every minute or so the silence breaks with a loud, "Mmmm-hmccckkkth"

He seems nice enough so I don't want to say anything, but at the same time after hearing it all day I want to go over there and give him the blanket treatment like in Full Metal Jacket.

Oh, to add to the fun another new guy came in this week and he seems to clear his throat all the time also, but this guy will do it while he's talking. After a while I feel like it's hopeless and can't help but to laugh when I hear him talk.

"Yes, Jim. I do have HCCCCKK the TPS reports HCCKC that you asked for the other day HCCCK. We'll touch base tomorrow".

Some people do it because of sinus problems. Others because of acid reflux irritation.

Would you rather they choke to death on the phlegm?

The guy who does it while talking, now that's kinda nasty.

Might want to watch out before you get an accidental loogie in the eye or something.

After hearing the loud outburst every minute for the past few months, YES.

It's actually making me dread work. It's like Chinese Water Torture. I know it sounds trivial, but over time it's downright disgusting and stressful.

If that's all you have to worry about in life, feel lucky.

just start an annoying habit of your own to piss them off too.

Yeah, I should start sh!tting my pants 5 times a day at work. Then when people tell me how it's freaking everyone else out, I'll say, "medical problem- can't touch me"

That reminds me, i have this pimple on my ball sack that's pretty damn sensitive... and the thing is, i haven't had any acne in years, so wtf is this?

That's not the only problem in the world, but I'm sitting about 10 feet away from him and I have to hear it every minute. I've heard people clear their throat in a way that wasn't disgusting, but this guy sounds like he's hocking up a loogie, you can really hear it.

This is a great time to learn how to tune out annoying people and noises. Trust me, learn this skill now or suffer for the rest of your life.

im sure he would rather not do it, many people have this problem and do not smoke etc...

there are many natural conditions that cause this, grow up.

That habit is obnoxious, annoying, and unecessary. Don't be a pussy and say something to him.

Actually, for some people, it is necessary.

I would ask him if it were necessary. If it was, I would ask to move cubicles.

Thinking back during my college years. There was one semester when I had to study at the library a lot.

There are dozens of people out there that'll never know how close they came to getting there face punched.

Inconsiderate loud punks.

Does he whistle all the time too?

You might be working with a former co-worker of mine. lol. He needed to do it because he had a bad sinus problem.
