Compulsive PC Upgraders...

Do you upgrade your PC once a year ? and what do you do with your old PC ?
I upgrade mine three time and gave the other two to my sisters.
Was just wondering what you guys do with your old PC. Thinking of upgrading it again to a AMD 2000XP when I got my tax refund this year. I just can't get enough of the speed.

Agreed Demon-Xanth, I believe the only things that holds any of us back is most likely our wallets, or purses for the ladies amoung us.

<< once a year?
try once a month, or less

I hear you on that one. Usually I just cheap my old PCs around and have them perform different tasks.

no doubt. god knows, if i had an unlimited budget... *shudder*

hrmm.. im always upgrading.. now that i should have money soon.. i'll start moving into the multiple pc world... .well... past 3 pcs anyways

i only add better/more parts to my computer when i can get a great deal on them. and i usually get a whole new computer by my definition (memory, hdd, motherboard, and cpu) when my old one has lost its edge.

Actually its worked out (due to cash issues) that major upgrades (CPU, mobo, RAM) occur every 18 months or so.

Upgrades such as graphics card occur when they need to... its nice to have a 'small' upgrade every now and then.

thats funny, i have money now but i dont feel inclined to upgrade anything in my computer. im satisfied with my rig.

I usually use the same hardware. Except the CPU and Motherboard. I'm satisfied with my Video card. I don't play game that much anyway. My hard drive is more than sufficient .But still got an eye on 100 gig plus 🙂

I hand my computer down. My wife gets my immediate hand-me-down, and she in turn gives her last computer to our children. They used to have one each (two) but that turned out to be too much of a pain (4 computers to maintain, plus too crowded in kids' room).

When my children's computers get replaced, the old ones lay around a while until I figure out which remote relative of mine has a worse computer than my leftovers. REALLY old, obsolete stuff that I end up with at work or at home is donated to the local school district.

At the moment, the kids have a 1.1GHz Tbird, my wife has a 1.2GHz Tbird, and I have a 1.4@1.57GHz Tbird. This is because I lost my mind during Christmas and did a major upgrade to everyone. The leftovers are a Pentium Pro 200, an AMD K6-2 550, and a Pentium 233. The K6-2 system is now a barebones (no drives at all), but the other two are more or less complete.

i tried to stop buy just having a laptop. it worked for about 3 months, but i saw a great deal on a new laptop, so i bought a new one. haha

I usually end up upgrading my CPU+Memory+video card about every 12-18 months. I'll do intermediate upgrades here and there which usually consist of faster/bigger drives. Although the rare exception is my motherboard. I think I've had this thing for over 2 years (anybody know when the Abit BX6 Rev.2 came out?).

Once I've got enough spare parts to build a pc I usually end up giving it to my brother or sister. I figure once I upgrade my current rig to a P4 I'll take the leftovers and upgrade my second pc, and then I'll take those leftovers and build a low-end pc for someone.

Uh, the past couple months I have been doing upgrades and mods to my computer like 2 to 3 times a month, it is going to stay like that too. 😀
