Comptuer has trouble decoding MP3's and extracting files.

While doing either of those it appears to lock up for a few seconds, then it continues on again for a little while then locks up again for a few seconds... it didn't do used to do this... anyone have a solution? System specs in link in sig...

EDIT: took burning out... it seemed to work fine.

Hmm, any number of things could be causing this.. You may have a program running in background that ocassionally does something very CPU-intensive, this slow-downs in playback and burning... I know someone will even suggest you may have a backdoor of some kind.

Download a task-manager utility (something that comes with Win2k) and see what's running.

Burning CDs and playing MP3 files are totally unrelated activities, and if you have problems with both you may have a bigger problem to begin with..

It's hard to say without looking at your PC, though.
