is it worth it to get anything beyond the basic cert? (just in A+)

i'm talking like the depot technician cert. (the one i'm looking at.) does this even register as an A+ cert?

i realize the A+ is worthless and most AT users grabbed off the street could pass it. so?

Since it does not expire, I figure why not. I want to go for mine later on, and also get the other ones like security+ linux+ server+ etc.

I'm also going to be going for ITL training next week and get a cert after writing an exam. Should be interesting.

id just get the regular A+ if you can, if any job requires it, id be surprised if they required a certain one. the A+ is probably just required for certain things but experience or a degree would help more

after looking at the test in more detail, apparently it's one of the three available. you HAVE to take the main test, and then are given the option of 3 specializations that you have to take.

i wonder, will employers look down on any specific specialization? will they even care?

doubt it. i think they've recently made this change to the A+ exam right? industry takes awhile to catch up to certifications and given the relative low level for the A+ i dont think anyone is really going to care.

Helped me too. Especially today, no company is going to hire you unless you have certs, degrees, and experience. Walking in saying you know how to work on computers because you hang out on Anandtech all day isn't going to score you any points in an interview.

This is BS. There are some aspects that you would almost always need to review for, unless you work in tech support all day. Even still, a few nights of studying it should make it a piece of cake.

It's worth having. I'd say get, A+, Network+, and Security+

You'll learn a bit doing so as well.
