I don't know, whenever my ID has been "verified" beyond a visual check they have run it through a card reader that read the magnetic strip. I also have a bar code on mine, but have not seen anyone scan it yet.

Is this going to be yet another ATOT thread where we argue about regional differences? Despite many posters using their "location" to put some "witty" text and not where they live?

I seem to have an unlimited supply of compressed air coming out my compressor in my garage!

Sounds like it's time to party!

on the fun side of compressed air, if you turn them upside down (this is important so you dont freeze your lungs) and take a breath of it, it lowers your voice. Quite fun if you alternate from it to helium ;p.

Used to do this on occasion as dumb entertainment. In small doses, it won't harm you, but then I wasn't huffing it to get high :p

Wow, they seem to be carding for everything these days.

I don't get carded very often, even though I look essentially the same as I did when I was 16.

That said, when I was 16, people told me I could pass for 30-40. (something about my beard)

We used to have magnetic strips on our licenses. Not mine though. Inevitably while teaching magnetism, I'd always stick a couple powerful magnets into my pocket. As my hand hit my wallet, I thought, "uh ohhhh." Pdf417 or whatever it is codes now. I still avoid carrying any magnetic cards while at school.

I haven't been carded the last couple times I bought alcohol.

Sudafed? Yes. But it's not an age restriction, they just keep track of who buys it and how much.

Can'o'air? No.

Wow re: the sunglasses, that's nuts.
Yes, it was just slightly odd.

As for the bittering agent thing! Thank you for mentioning that.

YES that taste in the mouth is awful... just awful. I actually didn't know what that was. All I knew is I was pretty sure canned air didn't USED to do that.

They actually specifically add something to it which isn't required in order to make it do that? Just so that people are less likely to huff it?

I'm just sick of shit where the chance of some small % of people doing something stupid means the rest of us are subjected to inconvenience.
Yes, they do add something to it for that very purpose. Check the labeling, it should mention the bittering/anti-abuse additives somewhere.

I guess there were too many parents complaining that their kids were dying of extreme stupidity.

34 and I still get carded at the grocery store for beer. I must be the worst kind of manlet.

I'm 24 and I still sometimes get carded at the friggin' movies. I regularly get alcohol at bars and stores without getting asked for ID, but apparently I don't look old enough to see an R-rated movie.

Ugh.

I just got out of the Navy recently and in the barracks on base they were VERY concerned about sailors abusing weed, spice, Robitussin, you name it. They had major initiatives and constant talking, programs, yadda yadda yadda to try to curb this.

I found out from another sailor at one point that I wasn't allowed to have a can of computer duster in my barracks room, when he saw me using it to dust my PC... this irritated me then just as today at Target did.

The amount of energy the Navy devoted to these issues was enormous. And yet, still the sailors did stupid shit.

I remember they even had to start talking about "jenkum" which I found out was when somebody pisses and shits in a bag, lets it ferment, and then huffs the fumes to get high

At that point, it became clear to me, and should've become clear to everyone... that if people are stooping to that, if they're coming up with that... then you will literally NEVER be able to stop people getting high, and that by trying to you are only inconveniencing those people who behave properly. Whether it was me not being able to have a can of duster, or other older guys who couldn't drive off base for a long time or were subjected to curfews, etc, because someone else might or did drink too much or get into a fight out in town... etc etc.

It's very analogous to software piracy really, all the measures they put into place never, ever succeed in stopping the piracy, but what they do accomplish is greatly increased inconvenience for legitimate customers. I used to never pirate games, it was a strong principle for me... I still have almost never done so, but my mindset changed a lot with Morrowind when I learned that pirates were actually getting a smoother, better play experience than me because they had no CD checks. I had them constantly, it'd make the game catch and seize endlessly.

lol that's hilarious. I can only imagine how serious it would be if you bought an air compressor. Probably need a signature from the president and an urine sample from the last 5 presidents.

Haha I'm 26 and always get carded for everything. I can't even buy a $2 scratch bingo ticket without getting carded. Actually pretty hilarious.
