The Gigabyte GA-E350N-USB3 is now at Newegg for $157 shipped. Just ordered one, will post up a review a few days after I get it.

it would be fun to make a zacate machine. a ssd and a slim optical drive in the smallest case possible... it would be absolutely ideal as an htpc. you really wouldnt even need to use the sleep function let alone turn it off.

Of course you still need sleep funtion. Will save 20-30W.

a lot of electronic equiptment draws 20+ watts while in "off" mode.... plus the zacate machines would draw less then 20w at idle too i think....

Right, but a computer in S3 sleep mode will draw closer to 1-2W. Most computers wake from S3 sleep within 1-2 seconds, which is basically how long it takes most monitors/HDTVs to sync to a picture, so I don't see a drawback to allowing a system to use S3 sleep unless something doesn't work properly (which has been known to happen).

thats all i was thinking too. sleep problems usually dont happen if you use current and good brand hardware, but in an HTPC the one thing that is absolutely essential is reliability, and sleep problems can always pop up randomly.

it would also allow you to run services like torrents and whatnot, but honestly i have a separate server for that. that thing runs music streaming, skype in and out, torrents, and tv streaming through orb. my htpc is already running all my games i really didnt want to put all that other crap on it.

what sucks is my server is a e3200 machine... so its probably suckin 75w from the wall at all times. i turn if off a lot because of that. a zacate server would be absolutely killer.

Tell me about it, I just priced out a SFF build (w/SSD) on newegg for about $330.

$45 Case + 200W PSU
$117 mobo + cpu + video
$40 4GB DDR3 1066
$32 slim DVD/CD burner
$95 60GB SSD

Total: $329

Cheap out on the HD for 320GB and you're down in the $270 range.

A SSD equipped Netbook connected to a external Drive? (for the extra storage capacity)

Or does the processor need to have lower power consumption for quiet operation?

Why does it take so long for vendors to ship Zacate motherboards? I have been waiting to buy at local store. Does AMD has problem producing Zacate chip?

In some thread I heard TSMC (?) was having trouble with the process or something so the supply is somewhat limited. That wasn't very specific was it?
