Im looking at buying a computer and i have several in mind that i might pick up. But was wondering what you guys think of this comp. This comp is a year old and it comes with a 1 year warranty. The guy that built this works at a computer store. He said he can get me parts for this comp if i want to upgrade it at discount. He is only asking $350.00 shipped

the computers specs

2.4 ghz 800mhz fsb with hyperthreading
fic mobo
52x24x52x cdrw drive
2 80 gig western digital hard drives with 8mb cache both still under a 2 year warranty
geforce 4 ti 4200 128 mb video card (is this a decent video card?)
512 ddr memory
sound blaster audigy

keyboard and mouse

he said he could also throw in a 17" monitor grey for a few more bucks.

Now what id be using this comp for is some gaming im new to the gaming and i want to get into it but my computer is 6 years old. So this is all new to me. Im willing to pay low prices for something and then just upgrade it. I do know that i would be using it to download mp3's, movies, surfing the net, and gaming so that is what id want to know is this computer set up for that or to outdated.

Any help would be great.

Thanks

hi,
that pc is just fine for everything but "advanced" gaming. the gf4ti4200 isnt directx9 compliant so you wont get the most advanced rendering that the new games like farcry have but if you are keeping to older games, it should be ok. it is about 1 generation back in parts but if you dont want to build your own and spend a bit more for a faster and more modern pc, this should be fine.
looks like a fair price to me...

Agreed, price-wise that's fantastic, you can always just upgrade the graphics card along the way. I'd say go for it :) My only gripe about it is that it doesnt have a DVD drive, being able to read DVD discs is becomming important, as people are migrating to DVD's to store things now, and DVD movies are cool lets face it :p But other than that, go for it, (Is the case cool looking?)

foofoo thanks for the info

that computer was just sold :( ive never built my own computer i think im going to build this one up right here though after i get a replacement comp. As for me playing advanced gaming i have no clue ive never really played any games on the computer. Id like to start though always wanted to play some games online vs. other players. I think by winter will have built up my own computer.

What about this computer right here? Id appreciate if you could rate this computer.

This is what this computer comes with:

GeForce 4 4200 TI
512 RAM
AMD Athlon 1.2 GHZ
20 gig HD
GiGabyte MOBO
DVD ROM
HP CD Writer plus
Ethernet Card
56k Robotics modem
Ready for Broadband or Dialup
Sxy Blue case with 2 front usp ports and headphone/speaker slot
Lights and Fan also blue digital tempature read out
Comes with Windows XP And Macafee 2004 virus scan and the following games
Battlefield
Battlefield: Vietnam
Medal of Honor:AA
High Impact Paintball
Unreal Tournament 2003
Unreal Tournament 2004
Diablo 2 LOD
Star Wars Galaxies

This guy is asking $550.00 for this comp right here with all the games included. I think i can get him down some more though. Plus he might do partial trade and cash deal for it.

He is a gamer and he claims that this computer is pretty fast and that it works really well for these games.

Whats your opinion what might i need to upgrade on it right away? I know id want to get a dvd burner for this comp if i got it.

thanks

Absolutely not, that's a no-go, what good are the games, if you're stuck with a system that will be a dead end for upgrades? ;) If I were you, I would go to WWW.ABSPC.COM and configure your own pc, they're pretty good to deal withI ehar, and their prices are very reasonable. Give it a look, happy hunting :)

Yea, if you're looking into gaming, go with an ABS, and I only say that because if you're not comforatable with building a system, ABS makes for a pretty good buy. And that previous system is not very upgradable, because all those parts are total crap, they're all bottom of the line, and you'll easily spend the cost of the system upgrading them in the future, it's not cost effective. Go with a Dell Dimension 4600 w/ a geforce fx 5200, or an ABS model with an mx440 graphics card.

hi, the dell is not as good of a deal as the 1st pc that was sold but still ok. stear clear of the older athlon system, even with the games.
i'm assuming that since you arent going to build yet, you arent yet comfortable putting in a hd and installing the system?
if that is the case, ask him if he'll add a 80gb hd (7200rpm, 8mb cache) and install the system for you. (shouldnt be more than another $70 i'd hope) and you should be set to game for a while. and you can upgrade the video card when you are ready.
