Talk about recent innovations that have made nuclear energy more efficient.
The history of nuclear energy from X to X.
What the future might hold.
One or two things that make it superior to other energy sources.

And the length requirements are? Also, what are your source requirements?

Focus on one type of reactor that is environmental friendly (low/no radioactive waste, life span, accidental fall out containment).

Since you can write multiple books on nuclear fusion without repeating any information, that's probably still too broad of a topic.

Since a google search for "nuclear fussion" results in over 6 million hits, it's too broad of a topic.

Write about how improvements in liquid buffers have made nuclear energy more efficient and manageable. I just made that up (and it might be true) but you get the point. Your paper shouldn't be about nuclear energy in general, just one specific part of it. Or go the easy route and write about the mating cycle of the african fruit fly. That should be specific enough for any paper with length requirements.

How about a paper on a Farnsworth-Hirsch Fusor? (A tabletop fusion reactor that can be built pretty cheaply)

I even found a wiki article to get you started: wiki

btw, "this past week" - your class has been discussing this for a week and you don't know the length and source requirements? WTF?!
That's usually stated emphatically on day one of any composition course, along with "1 inch margins, 12 point font, Times New Roman,..." as well as MLA, APA, or whatever style I expect you're going to learn during the course.
