mmmm now that i came from the store and looking for the free space i have available in the HDD, 40GB!!!, dam here we go again... Any nice HDD in the 1-2 TB storage capacity? WD, Seagate!?
Maybe WD blue or Seagate Barracuda, 7200rpm 64 cache. Its for storage and less demanding applications.

People here seem to like Western Digital over Seagate. I've seen many posts here, even from moderators, on their Seagates dying soon after the warranty ends. A WD Blue would be a good choice.

Of course, your mileage may vary.

Wow wait im checking WD website and can you explain me why only the Blue 1TB HHD is 7200rpm and the others are 5400rpm? Im certain there is something that is excaping my limited knowledge but why?

They re-shuffled their color performance system thing. Just pick one that is 7200 RPM version, like a black version if you need over 1 TB.

These are new overstock Hitachi drives (have 3 of these in 2 machines) and you can't beat the price/performance and storage. They sell a lot of them. They are as fast as WD, and maybe as quiet. Better than Seagate for sure & very good reliability, Hitachi Ultrastar HUA723020ALA641 Enterprise drives.

"The HGST Ultrastar™ 7K3000 is the world’s first and only 7200 RPM hard drive rated at 2.0 million hours MTBF."

Usandthem to be honest i have not used seagate for about 7 years. Right now im using two HDD, one Samsung and the other Western digital for about 6 years, no problem at all!
Burpo yep i´ve been reading nice things about HGST/Hitachi, but they are a bit expensive and not well represented here. Well i was just checking seems that Samsung gone out of HDD business :)...

The WD black 2tb 64mb cache 7220rpm are dam expensive here... 144 US Dollars

2011 hahaha i´ve been sleeping. Loss of quality in that process Samsung->Seagate?
If i remember well i did have some tiny problems with Seagate in that time i changed HDD brand...
Anyway seems to me the WD Blue is the way to go, blacks to expensive for me right now.

I want to do a fresh install of the Windows 10 on the SSD. It is 250gb, well actually less. Do you guys think it is better to partition the SSD in 2, like allocate one partition just for the OS and OS auxiliary apps and other partition for external apps like games, software like adobe illustrator, etc...? Lets say for the OS and auxiliarry apps one partition of 100Gb (c:/) and the rest of the space for another partition (d:/)? What you think? or just 1 partition, install windows and then later if i want do the partitioning?
By the way i will be using the HDD im going to buy for mass storage and less demanding apps.
Ho and whats this thing about changing from IDE to AHCI in the BIOS for a better preformance? SHould i do it?

Any hints on how to change from IDE to AHCI? I mean in the BIOS it is pretty straightforward i suppose, but i´ve read elsewhere that you have to alter some regedit parameters. Any help?

So here iam with the new SSD installed. Sequential Read 550Mb/s and Sequential write 501Mb/s. Pretty good no? Reliability mode.
And thanks for the help.

When you're doing a fresh install, you just configure it in the BIOS and go. (As you probably just figured out.)

Thanks. No need, done...

The regedit stuff is if you want to convert an existing Windows installation from IDE to AHCI mode. It's usually not worth the effort.

Sounds good to me!

Hi.

So im preparing to the next upgrade after i bought the SSD Samsung 850 Evo (250gb) Nice experience so far, things are way more responsive now :) Since that i transitioned to the Windows 10 64bit.
Anyway like we´ve talked a nice GPU for a 1080p monitor would be the gtx 1060 or the rx480. Im thinking getting the rx480 4gb instead 8gb and safe a few bucks. What you think? the 8gb would make much difference?
Do you also think that makes any sense to wait a bit more (Q1 or Q2 2017) for any news in the gpu department from Nvdia or AMD (Vega or gtx400 supposedly refresh, like rx485)?
About cpu upgrade i´ve been thinking about waiting for more Zen/Kaby Lake news. Q1 2017!? I dont know, if Zen proves to be a decent competitor i may do a more serious upgrade and go for a 6 core CPU, if the prices would be decent also.
Last about Memory. I dont know whats happening but for example right now im just using the web browser with 9 tabs opened (mostly forum webpages, no videos,etc...) and the memory usage is 84% (of 8Gb total only 1.22 Gb free). Could it be the fact im using a 64bit OS? or from Windows 10? Anyway this makes me question that a memory upgrade would be much needed in the short term. But i would like to make it when upgrading CPU if possible. Or i can buy 2x8Gb sticks of DDR3 next month, they could be a bit cheaper :).... Thanks.
