component out doesn't "stick" on my HTPC

I'm using Radeon 3450 with Catalyst 8.3, and component-out to my HDTV (which is a couple years old and no HDMI). The output works every time I set it up, but as soon as I turn the TV off for the night it reverts to only output over DVI and I have to get a display and reset it. Is there a way to make this "stick"?

Thanks in advance

Azn, did you even bother to read his post? OP, have you checked the "Force TV detection" box under Display Options in CCC?

I know what you mean. My x1900gt is annoying like that also even though I *am* using hdmi. I wish there were a way to just force it to output via a certain port regardless of whether or not anything is connected to it.

There used to be an ATI DVI to Component adapter, worked well for me, not sure it it's still produced or works, might want to research that, but it was relatively inexpensive at what? $10 per adapter if I remember correctly. I think it did 480i, 480p, 540p, 720p and 1080i. Not sure about the first 1 but sure it did the last 4 resolutions. CCC detected it and it worked flawlessly for me.

If that isn't an option, have you tried ATI Tray Tools? You can turn on tv out and then set it as a profile, set to auto load. Again, no guarantees it'll work but it's an easy download and I prefer it over slow and bloated CCC anyway.

awesome, thanks for the replys. I'll give tray tools a shot, I was trying to do some sort of auto-load with ccc and I didnt see that feature. As for the dvi to component, I thought those were only for specific cards, like the 9800 and 9600 and maybe the AIW. Am I wrong?

As for the force tv detection, I remember turning it off because it seems like it will only let you force SDTV.

Thanks again

Have you tried having the TV running and set to the component input before turning on the HTPC? My HTPC has a similar problem if my TV isn't on and set to the proper DVI input.
