i bought a magnavox component cable today and used it fro my dvd player. everything is plugged in correctly and tight but everything is blue and orange. guess i got a bad cable?

i think it got some kind of blue ink ****** all over my hands too. i don't know what else i would have touched to get it.

Component cables, as in RGB component cables?

yes

I had this issue with some components I had, the weird screen picture.

Basically as you know the cables should be colour coded, so only colour blind people will fail to plug the correct plugs into the correct outputs etc. You should have three jacks (Red, Blue and Green)?

Anyway, the tuner box for my plasma screen has the colour coded blue and green ports marked up the wrong way round. Only when I swapped over the blue and green jacks on the cable to my tuner box did the picture start to display properly.

A manufacturing error? Possibly.

Anyway, try and change the green and the blue jacks over see if this helps. Unlikely but worth a try all the same.

i know its not the tv because my wii works fine with component cables. it could be the dvd player thats messed up or the cables. i will try switching them around later.

Did you change the settings on the dvd player to component? (in the on screen menu)

To test to see if it's the cable use a set of Composite cables on the Component jacks if you don't have another set of component cables available.

you mean the red white and yellow cable? or just the yellow cable?

here's what happens with the yellow cable:
i only get a B&W picture from the green and blue jacks on the dvd player and this is only when plugged into the green jack on the tv. anything other combination doesn't give me anything.

i get nothing from dvd red to tv green or any other combination.

nevermind, i just figured it out...
in the dvd player settings there is a s-video or YPbPr or whatever its called. it was set to s-video. changed to YPbPr and it works now.

although it looks worse. its 480p instead of 480i. i can see lines on the screen.

There's probably a setting to enable/diable progressive output on the player if you want to switch it and see if it looks better the other way.
