Component cable length

Here is my plan - I have DirecTV and two HD receivers. On my downstairs receiver I connect my TV by HDMI, but my girlfriend wants a 15" LCD in her exercise room. I don't want to buy a third receiver. Since my receiver supports component video, I suspect that I can connect the second TV with a component cable and both TVs will work on the same channel at the same time. The 15" TV and receiver are about 25 -30 feet away from each other. If I get this 25' cable or possibly a 50' one, will there be too much signal loss to make my plan workable. Thanks

I'm currently using a 30' component cable to watch OTA HDTV on my 100" screen and no problems. Will your box output both HDMI and Component in HD at the same time? That would be the big question.

Thanks everyone for the info about cable length. Looks like I'm good there.

hmm - I just assumed they would both work at the same time, but maybe not. I have a DirecTV HD box it is made by RCA i think. If anyone knows if both outputs will work simultaneously that would be great. I guess the only way to be sure is to test it with my old TV and a spare component cable. Thanks again for bringing that potential problem to my attention before I buy the new TV and cable.

As mentioned before those lengths are fine as long as you buy a decent cable (monoprice.com FTW)

Component and HDMI should work simultaneously on your Cable box just fine. I had my cable box hooked up to my old TV that way for a while for PIP purposes, since the TV could only PIP one analog and one digital signal at a time. I would use the TV's QAM/ATSC tuner for digital and the cable box's component for analog. When I wasn't pipping I used HDMI exclusively. Oh and PIP of HDMI and Component side by side worked showing the image on both identically, which matches waht you are trying to achieve.

All of the outputs on the DirecTV boxes can be used at the same time. I'm sure you already thought of this, but keep in mind that they'll all output the same thing, so you won't be able to watch two different things on two different inputs at the same time.

Longest component cable I ever saw in use was 85ft. And it worked fine.
Remember you have to run audio cables as well.

With that cable linked he has analog audio covered.

One of the main reasons for component video was distance. Pick up a cable to a camera in broadcast video - the one that runs a few thousand feet. Yep, just fine.
