Basically i was installing a new keyboard and mouse on my main pc...this is really not an issue but I've mentioned it just in case

Anyways, anytime I to load up windows the screen goes crazzy with patterns of every color. Trying ctrl-alt-del's etc is useless.

I did end up going through safemode and it did boot up...ONCE. Windows gave me a dialog box saying that there was a serious error casues by 'ati 8500dv' ...no biggie, I uninstalled the drivers and rebooted.

Same problem happened again. This safe mode gave me the same error (color blocks)

The next thing I tried was using my XP disc to use the recovery console. While still loading hte drivers, the screen began to shift around, and then the screen went into the blockiness htat I've reviously descrbied.

Is my video card on its way out..or perhaps its fan?

The CPU temps are normal.

Unfortuntately my pc is in an obscure place, so i would really like to try to troubleshoot it from here...then i'll get it when i get a chance.

sometimes agp cards can get unseated. this is a common occurance due to the geometry of the slot. moving the case can cause this since the monitor cable is so thick.

Cooling is crucial. Accumulated dust will act as an insulator between moving air and a heatsink.
