Bored at work? If so, lend some help.

I'm an audio guy with extra background in web and print design, and to be honest, that's all I've kept up with in the past few years. Now I'm looking to build a new PC, but it's been ages since I've been in-the-know concerning hardware.

At the risk of cluttering the board with another "pick the parts for my new rig" topic, this is basically... well, one of those exact posts. While it's easy enough to head to any site that builds them for you and simply go to New Egg and use similar parts, I figured I'd ask here just for the heck of it.

So getting to the point, if anyone out there is bored enough to list me some parts for a complete new system with an approximate budget of $1000-1350, knock yourself out.

Specifics I'm looking for include: 1024 ram; 80+ hd; DVD drive; generous power supply; and nothing more extravagant than a 9600XT or 9800 Pro 128. Skip on sound card, as I've got one sitting five feet from me. Anything else is kosher. I'm not even partial to Intel or AMD.

Big thanks in advance to anyone that helps.

I would get the bigger hard drive from an after rebate special at a local store. Use the raptor as a game/boot drive. Don't get this yet as others may have some ideas.

You forgot a monitor, AMDfanboy!

Here's what I would personally propose:

-17" Samsung LCD w/ DVI interface
-ASUS A7N8X-DELUXE motherboard
-Mobile AMD Athlon XP 2600+
-2X512MB PC3200 memory
-Maxtor 120GB SATA 8MB cache 7200RPM hard drive
-ATi R9800PRO 128MB videocard

Anything over and above this is a waste IMO. This rig will outperform anything on the market (including the Athlon FX) when overclocked, and will fall well within your budget.

Oh, and welcome to the AT forums!!

Thanks to both of ya.

I wish I remembered my old forum login from several years ago. Unfortunately, the email address I used is long gone, and I can't even recall the name I used... reeeaaal smart.

Anyway, this is really my budget without a monitor. I plan on tacking one onto this cost. But thanks for the suggestion, as I am in the market for one.

Thanks again!
